Coining

I've seen coining done on fixed blades and on some folders. How is it done?

Thread files have a number of teeth and would be ideal, but the ones I had didn't actually cut

I use a checkering file.

It depends on where the coining is done and on what type material it's done on.
Liners can be easily coined with a knurling tool. Thicker/harder material requires the use of a checkering file.

Ken Erikson does it with the knurling tool...some of the best results on the liners in my opinion.

I too have been practicing with a knurling wheel.
I'll get it on a knife soon hopefully.
