Cold Day in Hell

The ZT 0452 is a good one and just the size I like. But I have a number of $150+ knives and resisted the temptation on this one. I also agree that people get a bit too caught up in the latest and greatest in general. I am not immune to it either. The funny part is that I spend what I consider to be a lot for a factory knife, fondle it, admire it, and what do I cut most things with....? A SAK that cost me about $30 these days. Funny how things work in my world.

For me, the knives I tend to use the most are my Manbug and various SAKs. The are less expensive, and much less likely to freak out the general public.

I have a ZT 0452CF I was fortunate enough to score at Blade and it is a FANTASTIC knife. I really can't say enough good things about it. Light, with a design that is ultra slim thanks to the design and a blade, that with over four inches, it actually becomes a competent self-defense option if it were to ever be needed in that role, with a handle shape that is not unlike the Cold Steel Voyager with the choils for both index and pinky fingers. It is both beautiful, and is it more than you'd need for an EDC role? Sure, but then, 99.9999999% of the knives we talk about on this board are. The 0452CF is gorgeous and I'm glad to have it in my rotation.

I think I will just keep my Kershaw Emerson CQC4XL and VG10 Kiser flipper as my really folders because I always end up feeling guilty about tying up too much money in large folder I really don't use.

Then, I think that that is what you should do. I respect that. Me? I love having my collection of expensive knives. I enjoy being able to hold, to look at, to use them and nearly every one of my knives looks brand new because I rotate my EDCs often. And hey, sure there's a small voice in the back of my mind that's saying "Why have all these knives which were made to be used, when all they really do is ride in your pocket as you go sit at a desk all day. You could sell most of those, and still have good steel to last you until the end of your days." and I'm sure I could bring a lot of money back into my pocket. But eh, in the end, I'd probably end up buying most of these knives again, or else just buy more knives. So I keep, and enjoy my collection. But that's me. I think you should do what you feel is best, and you won't see any judgement from me.

I think we all love knives and knife collecting, I think we all focus more on what we have in common than what we do differently.

For a ZT similar in size to the 0450, but just a tad beefier, the 0808 is really worth a look. Personally I think the 450 and 808 make a great pair. So the morning question would be....Q: Do I want a good looking (gentlemanly) titanium knife that's thin, light, and pretty (w/ red standoffs)? A: ZT0450 Q: Or do I want a great gentlemanly titanium knife that may be needed as a workhorse at some point through the day? A: ZT0808

My $0.02

I have a 0808 and I love it! It makes no sense, but even thought it is little, it has the beef I expect from a ZT.

After having this knife for a while, I like every thing about except that I have to be so careful about how to hold it when I open it. I also dislike the pressure it takes to disengage the detent. It hurts my fingers, and I am very used to flipping knives, plus I play bass, my fingertips already calluses that should protect me.
