Cold rolled mild steel

Anyone know a good cheap place to get cold rolled mild steel in Tucson, AZ? I'm looking for a piece 3/8"x1'x2', thanks in advance.

Steel is like gold, no matter where you go they sell it by the current market price by weight.

If you work hard, you can try going to all the scrap dealers and seeing what they have.
You may spend a lot of time and never end up with what you wanted.

In the nicer weather i scour all the dumpsters in industrial areas and packrat all i find.

So far it's looking like it's going to be about $65, that just seems really expensive for mild steel.

plus shipping....not much diff from your origional quote

Make friends with the scrapyards - or people who work in industry - see if you can rescue some scrap before it hits the bin

unfortunately $65 for 2 square feet of 3/8 steel in not that bad for new stock. If you can find a scrap yard it might be cheaper. At best it would be a crap shoot though. You may or may not find it and it may be chewed up or the wrong/oversize. Might be better to just fork out the $$ and get what you know is correct.. Just depends on how much time vs money you have.

Why are you looking for cold rolled. Hot is usually loxer priced. Jim
