Cold Steel 4 Max or Spyderco Manix 2 XL ?

Looking for a big back up folder knife bilt like a tank for if all else fails. (run out of bullets) Which would you Choose , and why ?
I carry a fixed black as an emergency back up to my pistol. If that is truly what you want a knife for, you would do the same. I also carry a small folder. Don't buy into the marketing hype that you need a bomb proof folder. It really is just marketing. If it comes to needing an indestructible folder, you already have the wrong tool. The spyderco will do any reasonable knife task you ask of it including sd. And it is much better at being a knife.

Anybody have any Side by side pictures for comparison ?

Here you go. Please let us know which knife you choose.

Thanks for the pics! Now you have me on the hunt for a 4Max! I always liked the knife and that big hunk of 20CV is really something.

Glad to oblige! The design has had a couple of production hiccups (particularly the American-made versions, unfortunately), so if possible try to inspect yours before you buy it. But despite the issues, the U.S. models have felt more bank-vault solid to me, though the Italian knives are every bit as rugged.

If you like the looks, by all means, get one in hand. They are incredibly ergonomic.

Thanks for the pictures. I ended up going with the Italian 4 Max , as a matter of fact I just received it in the mail today and what a beast it is . I think now I will be in the market for a custom belt sheath to carry this on the occasions that I do put it in rotation . If any of you know a custom sheath maker , please let me know....Thanks....
