Cold Steel 4 Max

It's not out yet. So far only a couple dealers have listed it under preorder status for around $400. I don't think a definitive release date has been announced yet but it'll probably be sometime in the next few months if I had to guess.

Does the 4-Max come with a sheath? It seems to me that a folding knife of this size and weight
really ought to come with one to offer a wearing option.

I want CS to do a head to head with the new 4 max and the new spartan.

the 4 Max would likely win in most every respect except for price, and the technicalities that give each steel their own advantages. The 4 Max is likely better built, and that may go with the lock as well.

No sheath, at least as far as I can tell. But consider it this way, it is about the same weight as a spartan which is heavy but carry-able just using the pocket clip. Then too this knife is even lighter than a Demko 4-Max (I would guess since it uses a thinner stock) and far lighter than some of cold steels larger offerings like the Rajah and Espada.

But at this price it becomes more logical to pay someone to make a sheath for you, plus it is a bit more personalized then too.

Either way, I can't wait for this knife to start shipping! I've had my order in since January and now I'm just getting restless!

My question is regarding the blade grind:

All the pictures of it so far make it look like a hollow grind to me.

I was figuring it would be a flat grind for strength though.

Edited to add:

This is the same for the Ultimate Hunter too.

But I picked one up and it has a high flat grind.

Aren't the clip-point Voyager and Lone-star Hunter also FFG? Pocket Bushman and the Kudu/Eland too come to think of it. So they have plenty to choose from.

I don't think there was ever an official response to this, but I asked the same question in the first thread on this knife and the general consensus seems to be that it is a hollow grind which makes sense. That would be the same as the real 4-max and the AD-10 so I doubt they would stray from that. Additionally while this is meant to be a big beefy knife, considering the thickness of the stock this knife pretty much needs to be a hollow grind for it to be able to cut at all.

I honestly wouldn't worry about a hollow grind causing any strength issues.

No need for a hollow grind. Even if they beefed it up to 0.25" (6.3mm) and shortened the height to 1" (don't know what the height is but sure it is more than 1") the Full Flat zero edge angle potential is 14.4 degrees inclusive. 7.2 degrees per side. All depends on the grind they put on it or the grind you put on it after you get it home.
