Cold Steel AD-10, opinions?

I happen to be carrying mine today and saw this thread. Its got one of the most comfortable handles on any knife ive held. Ive seen lots of complaints about the pocket clip being ugly or blocky. I like it. Im a lefty and don't reverse my clips. its flat and doesn't get in the way. I happen to like the looks of it,too.its different and works for me.

Can't go wrong w/an AD10. I too have seen them just under that $110 price in the past, I thought I did good @ $135 and I'm certainly not complaining. Mince isn't hollow ground but still is a very respectable cutter. Only a couple small qualms, mine had a really uneven grind. I've got 5 CS knives and this one had the worse edge grind of any. Once re-profiled the edge is twice as wide on one side than the other but really it doesn't bother me, it's a user and still cuts like crazy. I also find the Triad locks to be pretty stiff so one of the 1st things I do is untension the spring a little bit, once done I can thumb and finger flick them no problem. The Ultimate hunter and AD15 both carry a bit smaller than the AD10 but to me that's one of the beauties about this knife, it's a TANK and fills the hand. It's not an EDC knife for me, it's a little big but if I'm working around the farm or hunting it's in my pocket or pack. Really depends on the pants too, some of mine I can carry big knives and still access the pocket but some I need a smaller knife to get my hand past it.

I had one of the early hollow ground ones as well. Awesome in hand, but too big and heavy in pocket. If they made a slim lighter weight version with 1/8 inch stock I’d be all over it.
You might like the Ultimate Hunter. Similar size and blade shape, but lighter. Very well made. Strong.

Very nice knife. I've fondled quite a few. They are admittedly out of my self imposed price range so I went with a CS Ultimate Hunter instead.

Thanks. I think the flat grind would be fine, but I kind of wish I had ordered a hollow ground one when I had the chance. I plan on buying a triad lock knife this year but haven't decided which one. Not sure if I want slim and easy carry or crazy overbuilt. Ad10 looks awesome, but lots of good choices.

On the fence, I'm not sure how the saber grind would cut an apple but I'm sure it's plenty tough.I held one and one of my first thought was this knife is extremely nicely finished.

I've only seen on this knife is one or two promotions, but not in the flesh. I like four inch folders for weekend work, but I don't know much about this folder. What's your opinion?
Don't have one but I can tell you it is not 4". That's the only thing about the knife you mentioned so I'd think it important to get it right. I likely would get one if it was more than 3.5". That just seems like a too little blade for the foot print of the knife for my preferences. I bought the AD15 as an alternative. A very well made knife and a perfect size but the scorpion lock was a bit too funky for me.

Edit: also, it's 3.5", not 4", if that makes any difference to OP. You'd be better off with a 4 Max if you really want 4".
Yup.

The hollow grind makes the AD-10 cut far better than it has any right to. I'd try to find a first run, they still pop up in the forums and on eBay.

I can’t handle having “Ultimate Hunter” stamped on the blade. Other than that the design doesn’t really speak to me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Great heavy duty user, especially when coupled with a thin slicey SAK.
Very comfortable in the had; more so than the Adamas.

Love my ad10. I got a first run hollow ground and despite its blade thickness it slices as well as any other knife I own. And better than some. Edge is pretty good, decently even, and was sharp and has stayed sharp with minimal touch ups. And I've been using it to chop small branches off of trees in the yard. It is a tank!

I thought at one time I wanted a fixed blade. Realized that I didn't have a need for one and my ad10 can handle anything I need to do.

Makes me really want a 4 max scout...

Like it so much I bought a spare. Once you get used to the solid lock-up, the Spydie compression lock and BM AXIS locks feel cheap.

The bad primary bevel is driving me nuts. When I put my AD10 on my WE Pro to reprofile to 17 degrees per side after some serious grinding for a while I noticed one of the secondary bevels was 200% wider than the other. In order to fix the look of the knife I have to set one of the angles to 15 degrees and the other to 30 degrees. This make me sick and I have missed the 30 day return window with AMAZON. Does anyone know if Cold Steel would be of any help?

Doubt it. Especially if you already tried to reprofile it.

Yeah, I have read countless issues on CS bad grinds. I suspect they would deny accountability from every angle possible and it would probably frustrate me to no end by communicating with them for a resolution that is satisfying for me.

You didn't notice the grind being as bad as you say before you started sharpening?
