Hi,
I'm a newb here and just picked up an AD-10. Really like this knife but noticed there's a slight bit of blade play up and down. Side to side is nice and tight. Is this normal?
Thanks!

I should clarify I joined up nearly three years ago but have only started buying and selling knives recently! LOL!

Is this normal?
Nope ! Should be rock solid and basically feel like a fixed blade .

Probably it's not just not fully seated / locked up completely .

It may wear in with repeated opening and closing . Lock faces might need some polishing if you're in a hurry .

Lubing lock might help .

If it's really noticeable (and you are not simply OCD hypersensitive) your might return for replacement . Mine was perfect , fresh out of the box .

Thanks for the feedback.
I might just send it back to Cold Steel for replacement.
I heard they are pretty good about that.

I'll double check.
Thanks
I recently changed the stock liners to a pair of G10 liners made by knathan's knives. When I reassembled the knife, I was super disappointed to now have blade play up and down.

When I reached out to Nathan, he told me to make sure that the larger of the 1st 2 pins was up front. I switched them and lockup returned to rock solid.

Point of the story, your fix may be as simple as swapping the 1st to pins from the blade back. Good luck!

I have 3 AD-10s , PRE-GSM, and it should feel like a fixed blade in every way. Is your model produced or sold after GSM bought Cold Steel?

dpickin1, I wonder if that's my issue?
I'll take it apart and see what's up.
Thanks!

iirc from my only teardown of one, there's a couple pins in there that, if reversed, will cause a good deal of slop...and it's really deceiving because at cursory examination, they look identical.

here's the one I had to disassemble to put on custom handles and the first time I tried I got those pins exactly ass-backwards:

John, just picked up this knife so I'm assuming it was produced by GSM.
Ok. This may or may not be the reason. I won’t buy any GSM products, I only buy Pre-GSM cold steel (OLD STEEL). GSM is a large conglomerate parent company that will sacrifice quality for profits and the assclowns that will make those decisions probably know almost NOTHING about knives. They make decisions based on cutting costs any way they can to make their quarterly/annual bonuses. Quality controls will continue to decline if they take the normal corse of business that large companies take when buying smaller companies.

Thanks for the feedback.

I don't want to be a stick in the mud but they are not pretty good about that. In fact they suck. They won't even give you the right time of the day. I won't buy any GSM products. I'm interested in them but it's hard for me to buy one. There is no customer service.

Crap, I must've heard the wrong info!
I'll try disassembling based on the previous posts and respond back here with my results.

That's really all you can do. You have to Source parts from somewhere and fix it yourself. That's why I avoid them like the plague. Never used to be like that. But it is what it is.

Idk, someone here recently had a problem with their sheath and they not only sent a new sheath but the old knife plus a new knife. Maybe they’re getting their act together.

OP, if your knife hasn’t been disassembled then it’s not likely the pin mix up problem. Sometimes if it’s just a little play, then opening the blade hard repeatedly can help seat the lock further. Like everyone said, these should be rock solid.

I hope you're right jux. I figured it would take them a little time to get their act together. I just didn't know how long it would take. I'm very surprised to hear that they replaced the knife and a sheath. I know I sound negative sometimes. But they made me this way. I'm willing to give them a second chance. After all doesn't everybody deserve a second chance? I'll be waiting and seeing. Thank you for telling me that

I disassembled knife and switched the pins.
Guess what? Nice and tight now. Damn, the two pins look nearly identical.
My son had decided to fool around with the knife and disassembled the knife to clean and lube. He's been doing this to a lot of the knives I own. Didn't mention it to me till I started taking it apart. LOL!
Thanks for all the advice and feedback.
