Got one today and am very impressed. The price to feature ratio is very unbalanced in the favor for the consumer. Obvously CS keeps the price down with its Taiwan construction, but the Chinese are making great stuff these days so I wasn't concearned with QC. In fact it was on par with many of its competitors QC levels. The blade is AUS-8 which was razor sharp out of the box. It is a modified bowie style blade with fashionable little blood grooves that no doubt serve no function, but look nice nontheless. The blade is hollow ground and very wide. This will be a great slasher. It is not quite bead blasted, but more of a frosted finish, so make sure you keep some oil on it to prevent rust. I will use Sentry Solutions Tuf Glide. The handle is made of aluminum and is quite hand filling but is still thin enough that it isn't intrusive in the pocket. The lock is somthing of an axis lock copy. Nothing super speacial, but it locks up vault tight and gets the job done. The knife can be waved open out of the pocket when you catch it's thumb stud ridge on the top of your pocket. It opens very fast and smooth. I did notice that CS used phospher bronze washers on this knife in the pivot which is a nice addition. All in all this knife is a great value. It is in no way supposed to beat out a BM axis lock model, or an Emerson (wave), but it is great in a class by itself. Try one out. It is cheap and a great EDC.

Cold Steel's refusal to make blades with more modern steels is quickly relegating it to a status I don't believe to be in the company's best interest. This knife would have been a perfect product to produce in VG-10 or even ATS-34. It is a very attractive knife, however.

And the knife name mostly likely to get you raped by a prosecutor in court goes to........

....the Cold Steel AK47. Congratulations!!!!

But seriously, there's nothing wrong with AUS8....how much again?

I don't really see the bowie there, personally.

Nice wave.

The street price is $59.99. I will try to take some in hand photos somtime today. The handles appear colored, but I could be wrong. They look a little darker than natural aluminum.

Doesn't look too bad, could be a good replacement for my gerber air ranger beater knife. I just wish their were places to pick these up in my area and handle them!

Hmm...60 seems like a bit much....but I suppose it's not really a bad price, given the axisesque lock and aluminum handle. And wave.

I've got one. I couldn't stand the funky grivory buttpiece, so I cut it off flush with the scales. IMHO it greatly improves the feel of the knife.

nice looking knife and i like the aus 8. let us know how it does after a little use, or abuse. later, ahgar

I am looking to gather a bunch of card board and rope in the near future. I wanna put it through its paces a bit to check the edge retention. I also am not totaly thrilled with the rear spacer. I was at knifecenter.com and was talking to my friend who is the owner and the CS rep. I expressed my opinion about it and also noted that a polished and or black blade would be nicer than the frosted finish, but I bet the price would go up. For what it is, you get a really nice EDC. Sub $100 range, good features, decent steel and nice looks. This is my favorite CS folder now. I used to like the Gunsite the most, but this is nicer.

Cutting off the butt piece would be my idea as well if i got it. the blade to handle ratio is real off;does it feel weird because of it? 3 1/2" blade, 6" handle?

With the buttpiece removed, I measure the handle length at about 5". This is a much more reasonable match to the 3.5 inch blade.

Andy

If the blade stands up to use this could well fill that " I want a knife for SD but also one I won't mind tossing, if need be, after use " niche.

Nuthin' wrong with it, but a company should have a few premium knives made from VG-10 or ATS-34, just to maintain its standing.

Doesn't bother me one bit. I like this knife just fine the way it is. There are a few small things I would have wanted, but I didn't design the knife. CS did a good job with this one. This knife is much nicer than a throw down. I wouldn't want to ditch it.

I got to admit, I really like the way CS combined the thumb-disk as a wave feature...... Wouldn't be surprised if more companies made similar style thumb-disk openers.

No doubt they would be sued by CS for infringement ;-)

Ahh I think they would be cool about it. The first knives CS made with the axis lock copy said Benchamde Axis lock on the boxes. I think they wouldn't have an issue as long as they get thier acknowledgement from whomever copies it. As far as the wave, or whatever the heck they call it, I like the setup. It works really well.

Thanks for the info, i think ill order one on monday. sounds like a cool knife....:)
