Cold Steel AK-47

Greetings USAFSP!

From what I have read from your previous threads, you are a real user of your knives. I just want to know is how is the finish on the handle of your AK47 holding up.

Thanks!
Stay sharp!

Nuthin' wrong with it, but a company should have a few premium knives made from VG-10 or ATS-34, just to maintain its standing.

Tell it to Randall.

I like that blade shape. I bet it would look pretty nice mirror polished, and it does not look like too bad of a job to do. The handle isn't my cup of tea though

BTW....
IIRC Their triple action folders feature AUS-10, but they didn't sell very well.

Prob'ly because I should have had above-average, origami-like folding skills when I handled one several years ago. Sheeesh! In the long run, simplicity will always surpass novelty.

Thanks for the all the info guys. In fairness, this is shaping up to be a very good "tactical" knife that's merged several desired design features. Even the ergos seem well thought out; look just how the rear fingers (middle, ring and pinky) are "locked" (via grooves) for a secure but still maneuverable grip and if you've ever done knifework, you'll get my meaning. The butt extension looks like it could give a nasty pressure sting too.

I believe Ernie Emerson would be the one suing, IMHO. His wave feature is patented and I am not sure how CS is getting away with this.

When the knife is closed, does the edge touch the inside of the handle, or is there some space in between the two, by design?

I wouldn't worry about it. CS is one of the few marketing companies that is very careful about patent infringements.

I totaly agree- LT will never get a penny from me!

Well, Ernie Emerson isn't complaining and Lynn Thomson hasn't said anything, so I'm not sure anything improper has been done.

The knife doesn't do much for me, but to each their own.

Got one of these (Cold Steel AK-47) on ebay for 52.50 shipped. I love it! Awesome out of the box. Pull it out of your pocket and it's opened without even trying. Cut some cardboard without any problems (opening a case of yogurt for my daughter). Very impressed on the 1st day. May be a little big for EDC but will rotate it with my Native, Mini-Griptillian (555), and SOG Blink.

For the price, it's a great knife. IMHO :)

I bought the CS AK-47 a while back and I've been nothing but impressed with the knife. I've found that for the price, its a hell of a knife. Its pretty damn big though hehe, so it fills the hand well. I've found that its not a bad knife to EDC :p.

I bought one also, it's a bit large - but sharp and surprisingly well made. Solid and tight. The blade, by the way, does not touch the handle.

[/IMG]Received my cold steel a few days ago, and could not stand that the grivory pommel, that made the knife to seem to ride higher in the pocket. So I removed the pommel, and cut out to round spacers from the supplied pommel. Once cutting out the round shapes, I put them on a high speed sanding belt to polish them up.

The reason Emerson can't complain/sue is that they're not marketting as "waved" which is a knotch cut into the blade itself.

Instead it is a "removable thumb plate" with the emphasis on removable.

This little technicality would defeat the patent checkers.

Also, now they call the axis lock "ULTRA LOCK" so maybe they're not having to pay the benchmade patents either...

I remember a thread when the Black Talon first came out, Spyderco was sueing CS for the Civilian clone it was.. I think it ended up they had to pay Spyderco settlement for that one..
