Cold Steel American Lawman Taken Apart

Thanks Ankerson for the thread and pics. The Triad lock I used to wonder about is now easy to comprehend thanks to the pics. I too see one of these knives in my near future. The G10 looks like an excellent canvas to do some customization :)

I think you could do some stuff with it, the G10 is pretty thick.

Thanks for the pictures Ankerson. You know I dont like the design of the knife that much but seeing those pictures got me thinking. Take the coating off.....I can sand that very sharp guard down (I like straighter handles)mmmmm.....might have to pick one up and do that when funds allow, or maybe wait for their new products and then decide. Anyway. Thanks.

I've been wondering if I would rather have the first generation with steel liners or the new one with no liners... The difference I guess is in wieght. The added wieght from the liners would not bug me at all. Are the liners really necessary though ? Would the G10 stand the test of time as far as pin placemenr is concerned ? HMmmmmm. :)

The contact points on the lock look battered after that video session though. Is there any blade play after that?

Looks good to me simple good design , I have to order it now , and can make bronze washers for it ;)

Looking at the pictures I've been thinking.

The conventional lockback's strength is pretty much based on the pivot pin inside the lockbar (assuming other components like blade pivot and tang does not fail/shear). Isn't the current Tri-ad locks like

conventional lockbak + strength of stop pin

So I've been thinking that perhaps all the emphasis on the stop pin alone is basically disregarding the strength of the thick pivoting pin in the lockbar. So far this has not been mentioned as a possible source of strength.

My own worries with the new versions is that, though the G10 is strong enough, I'm still a bit uneasy without ss liners.

Looks beefy though. Would you take out the coatings Ankerson?

youtube the videos of CS testing the G10 lawman.. that will take away any doubt that the g10 is strong enough to handle anything you throw at it..

thx for the pics.

ive been wanting to strip the coating but haven't because i didn't want to have problems putting it back together.

i swore i would never dissassemble another mid lock, but this looks easy.

how would the pivot pin get loaded?

i took the coating off my lawman just a few days ago, it really does look so much better. i dont understand why they dont offer this blade in satin.

i just scratched the coating off with a beater knife, it comes off so easily lol. took me 5 minutes of scraping. looks soooo much better. looks like a completely different knife.

Now look at what you made me go and do:D:

I used some rough sand paper. Maybe later I will go back and polish it up to a nice shine, but for now I am going to enjoy the Road Warrior look. :D

Thanks again!
