I have a first generation Carbon V ATC kukri
with a black handle(green was also available)and I have had a couple of minor chips occur under hard use.Does this mean that the blade is too hard, has internal stresses that need to be relieved or is the flat grind just too thin towartd the edge? What would be a good solution this(don't say Himalayan Imports, too crude)I love the way this thing cuts but I want a little more toughness.Do I have to go with a saber grind type edge to get any toughness like the Nepalese ones or is it just a heat treat problem?

Any and All input is appreciated

If the edge is chipping the steel is not tough enough to handle the type of work you are doing with that acute of an edge geometry. The simplest solution is to give the edge a little more support. Try raising the angle of the edge or converting it to a convex bevel.
