Am I just being picky or the grind is just unacceptable? My recon 1 in CTS XHP is centered but not this one.

Not to bad IMO>
Not a big deal, because they will replace it if it bothers you.

This is pretty common on a lot of CS blades, even the high-end ones like the Tai Pan or Espada. Does not affect performance though. For the price one is paying, I'm willing to accept this small issue. If it really bug you, get a professional sharpener to re-profile the blade, though you can probably get another CS folder for the price...

I have about a dozen Cold Steel knives, most were purchased in the last 2-3 years. Not one of them is even close to being that bad, including the three 2015 models acquired in the last month or so.

Well, someone asked me for a picture, here it is. Mine looks like yours. Like yours, mine is also ground deeper on the right side looking at this direction. Did you also get an uneven grind on the flat part of the blade where it meet the hollow curve?

Thanks for pointing that one out. Uneven? Hell yeah! But I think it's minimal. I'm just so used to $200+ range of knives that I forgot the difference of their qualities and where it's made.

Completely unacceptable. You really ought to just send that knife to me, so you no longer have to suffer such a blade. As a forum brother, I will carry your burden for you.

;)

I check for blade alignment, bladeplay, and cosmetic flaws. I have never really paid too much attention to the grind.

Man, just call them and then double tap with an email with pictures to their service team. I'm sure they'll do something. They can't afford not to...

Considering they are lock-testing their competitors... Seems that if they are really THAT good, they' d be careful not to become their own enemy.

*bamfs* :D

CS Offers a deal on what they decide are seconds. Most of them are ground of centre. I would contact them.

The grind on my Recon 1 came basically chisel ground. At first I thought they only ground one side, and its so uneven that I still suspect they did. But it is so dang sharp I really dont care.

I think it's unacceptable, but I've seen off-grinds on pretty much every brand of knife out there. It's a pet peeve of mine.

I would send it back if I had the option (living in Canada means there's a high chance of a knife never making the return trip through customs, so I am my own warranty department).

The one CS blade I've with similar uneven grind is an AUS8A Rajah III, which is also the only CS blade in my collection I can't re-sharpen with a Sharpmaker because the grind is so messed-up (need to be reprofile), plus the re-curve complicates things. So I just leave it at home as a Tri-Ad-power box-cutter/package-opener.

Use it until time for sharpening and fix the bevel yourself. Very few production knives, and many customs, don't have even bevel grinds.

I am a newbie. Would someone please mark what exactly is wrong with the knife in this picture? I mean I can guess what, but please mark it, for example by a red arrow or something :-D

Thanks :-)
