Has anyone used Cold Steel’s customer support since being incorporated? I have a Recon1, the blade is not deploying as it should. I contacted them, 1st via email, no response, then by phone. The lady was polite but said they would not do any repairs; due to normal wear & use. I like Cold Steel, but customer service is also important.

No real customer service. Which model Recon 1 is it? How is it having trouble deploying?

I think the best you can hope for now is a complete replacement. As others have said, customer support for actual repairs, parts, etc doesn’t seem to exist. Looks like the brand has become “disposable” in a sense. Sad, because most knife enthusiasts feel their collections hold sentimental value….I know I do. I don’t even like abusing or throwing away my junk knives.

Probably just needs a good clean as in a complete disassembly. I know some parts can rust and lubricants gum up.

I tend to think that it is still safe to buy CS fixed blades, especially models that have been around for some time. The likelihood of needing Customer Support for a fixed blade is less, and defective knives can be returned for replacement. But I absolutely would not buy any CS folder as they may need repairs, and we know they simply do not have the capability to do so.

I would reconsider if I was you, we spent good money on Cold Steel Knives only now they're reduced to junk. I won't be buying anymore of them, it's throwing good money after bad. And I'm pretty mad at this whole Cold Steel Saga.
OP Did not mention how long they had their Recon 1. I can say that I do own two such knives, one used more than the other with the lock not properly engaging when opened.I did clean it and do not have anymore issues. Maintenance is definitely an owner's responsibility.

Yeah but if you lose a screw while you're doing it then what? Where will we get a new one from?

I’ve seen many aftermarket sets of Recon 1 screws online. If OP can tell us which generation of Recon 1 they have, and explain the malfunction, there’s a decent chance we can help get it working.

I didn't know that. Where do they sell screws? Knife kits . com?

Has anyone ordered directly from Cold Steel during the past year?

If so, is more than two weeks normal time for "order processing" with no updates since the date of the order?

I've never ordered from GSM Cold Steel before.

I've been a Cold Steel fan for a long time. When buying a knife, it's nice to know that there is a company behind it to help you out if need be. Two fantastic examples of this are Buck and KaBar - though I am sure there are others. Not to derail the thread but I once broke a Buck 110 by foolishly batoning kindling with it while camping. I sent it back to Buck with a note explaining what I did, asking for it to be repaired and told them that I would pay as this was not a warranty repair, but an owner (me) screw-up repair. Well, I got the knife back looking exactly like a brand new one and no charge. I will always be a Buck fan. I have a bunch of Becker knives (made by KaBar) but, despite what I put them through, I have never had to use KaBar's (apparently amazing) customer service.

I said all of that to say this; you are not just acquiring a knife - but entering into a relationship with some thing and some company that you trust and can count on.
Sadly, that may not be the case with Cold Steel ala GSM.

I ordered a couple Black Bear Bowies and a jungle machete a few days ago. They arrived on my doorstep this afternoon.

OTOH, I ordered a great sword and soldier’s targe late last year and it took a little over 2 weeks to ship for each.

They’ve only ever shipped to me with Fedex ground, and they do send email updates.
