Cold Steel Customer Service

I ordered a couple Black Bear Bowies and a jungle machete a few days ago. They arrived on my doorstep this afternoon.

OTOH, I ordered a great sword and soldier’s targe late last year and it took a little over 2 weeks to ship for each.

They’ve only ever shipped to me with Fedex ground, and they do send email updates.
Were the Black Bear Bowie's sharpened?

They were pretty sharp, evenly ground, and only one had a small burr just above the guard. I pulled out my dremel and honed the point a bit more on one of them.

Odd thing is that they came in cardboard sleeves with the old Cold Steel logo. Doesn’t bother me since I’m going to make kydex sheaths, but some people might not like that.

No sheath?

No sheath?
Nope. Just the sleeve. The listing says cor-ex sheath, so I’ll call them on Monday and see what they say.

I got a one-time 15% off code so I’m fine with no sheath, but the sleeve with the old logo makes me wonder if they’re just selling old stock and won’t continue manufacturing them.

A few of the machetes have been out of stock for the last 2 to 3 years.
I’ve noticed that the small kukri, some latins, bowies, and jungle machete have returned here and there, but all with the old logo. The ones I’ve recently bought don’t seem to be new manufacture.

I also noticed there is a new 420SS gladius machete now available from a certain vendor. It makes me question whether or not the carbon steel blades will be phased out. That would be tragic.

I remember when the Bowie Machete and the Black Bear Bowie could be purchased for under $20 on sale. I should have purchased more of them when I had the chance.

My issue was resolved, but it did take a while.

I ordered a Master Tanto in 3V DLC and my account kept saying that it was being prepared for shipment. After 20 days I contacted them and they said this item was out of stock and I could substitute it for the satin finish version so I did and got it in a few days.

While I wanted a DLC version and already had two of the satin finish version, I did intend to get at least three each of the satin finish 3V and SMIII versions, and the price was still pretty good, so this really wasn't much of a problem.

Now I have just two SMIII Master Tantos to get, and then a couple Outdoorsmans, but I'm not in a rush.

I bought four Bowie Machetes in maybe 2016 and they were very sharp for machetes, as were the Gladius Machetes I bought a couple years before that.

The Kukri Machetes I bought last year had rough but usable edges, but they were easy to touch up. They performed OK, but not really any better than I expected a machete that size to do, so maybe the ones they were raving about were sharpened much better. My Gerber Versifex I bought around the same time performed better in cutting branches off fallen/cut tree limbs.

I just thought I’d give an update about my inquiry to GSM regarding the missing sheaths for my black bear bowies. They are shipping them out to me within the next 3 business days. I’m pleased with the outcome.
