I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the customer service at Cold Steel is any good.
I'm asking this because I just received a brand new cold steel recon 1 tanto in the mail and it was missing a screw in the handle, now while I am sure that I could get along fine with only 4/5 screws in the handle but it just bothers me that it came that way right out of the box. I called the phone number given to me by the retailer (cheaperthandirt.com) and the woman on the other end politely informed me that customer service only operated Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.
So I am forced to wait, I put my knife back in the box it came in which I put back in the envelope that it arrived in which I put on a shelve in my room. I'm afraid to use it my fear being that they will want in sent back in exactly the same condition in which it was sent to the dealer.
So my question for everyone remains, are the cold steel people going to ask that I ship the knife back to them for a new screw? Are they simply going to send me a new knife? would they possibly agree to send me a screw with the necessary tool to install it properly, the latter being required because they use priority screws with a star shaped pattern in them. What do you think will happen? I would like to know your thoughts and any stories that you might have to share.

SEND IT BACK, GET ANOTHER! Your retailer promises to pay for it: http://cheaperthandirt.com/satisfaction.asp

1. If you have questions, call 800-559-0943 or email Customer Service. They will send you a return label with a FedEx barcode on it and a listing of FedEx Kinko's centers in your area.
2. Pack up the product to be returned and fill out the return form located on the back of the order form you received with your order.
3. Take your box and barcoded return label to any FedEx Kinko's.

Call on Monday and find out. So to confirm, you have TWO holes now on your knife. One for the lanyard and one that has the missing screw? Heck, id say to return it back to cheaperthandirt and make sure they pay for your shipping back to them, since they are the ones who are suppose to check the quality of the knife before shipping it out.

there are not two holes because on the side opposite of the side missing the screw there is a round metal covering just like there should be. But its still just missing a screw.
Thanks both of you really, I never would have spotted the fine print dictating that they are responsible for a faulty product.
