Cold Steel Desperado

Sorry I can't answer your question. But you should ask a moderator to move this topic to the General Knife forum where hopefully someone will know.

Strider makes a knife very similar to that model but it's gonna run you a little more lol. Boker also has a knife based on the same concept designed by Chad Los Banos.

I like the Vaquero series but the Desperado just didn't do it for me. The steel was not as good and the handle is really not enough for a recurve blade of that size. The sheath wore out fairly quickly making the knife fall out easily. Had one for awhile, got rid of it within 6 months. I still have my other large and grande Vaquero which have seen use for over 8 years now.

...the handle is really not enough for a recurve blade of that size...

So IYHO, would a clip point style blade work better? The idea of a fully serrated blade kept me from pulling the trigger on one while it was available but I think the concept( the handle) has some merit.

For me, if it was a smaller blade, clip or recurve, it would be better. For me a larger grip is needed to get the full cutting power out of a blade that size. The Desperado just does not give you enough grip to really use it with a lot of force. This is especially true for a large SE recurve but also applies to any blade that large.
