Now i know in terms of blade sharpness cold steel matches up to their advertising, but does that lock? I haven't heard bad things about them but alot of their blades are the 40-70 price point.

For that price are they really that strong of a lock?

I also noticed on the rajah promo video he said this lock can fail and cut you very badly, Please be reasonable with your demands.
On a more funny note if anyone listens to hip hop or rap cold steel should hire dj khaled to start their advertisements "WE THE BEST!".

Make the story short and sweet for ya'.
They are overpriced.
The AUS-8A steel is heat treated well and easy to work with.
Yes, they are very strong and the Tri-AD lock is very-much-so real.
Some people like them, and some people HATE them.
Personally, I am neutral. I have 3 CS knives, and I like them, but I would never spend alot on them.

My perception about Cold Steel's advertising - a view which I think many people share - is that it is a little goofy and over the edge, but that their products live up to the hype and are as strong as they claim them to be. So don't let the advertising scare you away. The Tri-ad lock really is about as strong as any you will find.

I don't agree with Mr. Bladeboss that they are overpriced. The AK-47, Lawman and Voyager models are quite a value.

They make some really good knives and they do work as they should.

Best is an opinion as there is no best, only different.

The Tri-Ad lock is as good as they say it is in the end.

I seriously doubt that lock will fail under normal use of a knife, but in the end any lock can fail or be made to fail.

Buy what you want and form your own opinion.

iv been considering a rajah 3 for a around the house work knife, got a friend who has a new one (he ordered 2 and one was supposed to be a gift for his brother but he got one before his birthday so he couldn't give him it) and he says he will sell me it if i want it for what he paid for it, witch was 49.99.

Is 49.99 a bad price or a okay price for that knife? I really actually do like it.

If you like the knife then it's worth it.

No one lives up to their advertising 100%. Ads are very carefully planned and executed. At least they better be......... Great knives that have not failed my hard use but forget the dramatic ads.

They are very strong. I like their ergos and lock the best and the blade steel well enough. I can use them indoors and outdoors for 4-6 days pretty rough then take a minute or two to set up a Sharpmaker and touch up the edge. Can't take a minute or two and give a folder better ergos or stronger build.

i sharpen my stuff with a sharpmaker too, So it works well on Cold steels aus 8?

It does a good edge pretty damn fast, only steels about the same for me are 1055 and 1095. I haven't tried as many steels as a lot of guys on here though. Also two serrated Spydies with S30V i never used rough but my older Sharpmaker just gave them a few kisses on the fine stone and they were better than most of my disposable razors.

In a word, no. They do not live up to the hype. The whole "strongest sharpest knives in the world" thing is pretty much a joke, as are the ridiculous videos of Lynn Thompson doing stupid stuff like stabbing car hoods. They make some good, cheap, around the house/yard beater knives, but in my opinion, that's about it. Their higher end stuff with the san mai III steel (simply vg1 laminate) is pretty nice, but WAY over priced. Yes the triad lock is very strong, probably the strongest locking mechanism on the market, but that's not to say that other mechanisms are weak. Use a knife like a knife and the lock will never fail, regardless of its absolute breaking strength. Cold steel does do a good job of heat treating aus8, but in the end, it's still just aus8. Even their high end knives, costing at times several hundred dollars, are bested in the steel category by a $50 spyderco. All in all, they are good, fairly cheap knives, the hype created by their marketing team is absolutely ridiculous, but obviously works, because it seems that lots of people gravitate to cold steel when they first get into knives. Buy what you like, and if you like the raja 3, then by all means buy it, but buy it because you want it, not because Lynn Thompson says cold steels are the best.

PS- I literally laughed out loud at the DJ Khaled comment...

i got it.. it wasnt as sharp as i liked, i went to sharpen it on the skarpmaker.. it didnt get sharper? whats up with that it isnt sharpening at all. :/

The sharpmaker works very will with Aus 8. The steel will take an edge quickly and tends to roll rather than chip.

The bevel angle is probably more obtuse than your sharpmaker angles. Which setting were you using on your sharpmaker? Try marking the edge with a sharpie and making a few swipes on the 40° setting. The marker will be gone where the stone contacted the edge. If you are not hitting the very apex of the edge it means your bevel is greater than 40° inclusive and you will need to reprofile the edge to anything under 40° before the sharpmaker will be effective. If you don't have any stones with which to reprofile, you may end up having to adjust your angle on the sharpmaker by tilting the blade slightly away from the stones as you make your passes trying to keep that angle consistent with each pass. The sharpie trick is key. If you aren't removing the sharpie from the very edge, you aren't getting your knife any sharper.

well for me it isnt working at all, i went step by step like by the video step by step coarse through fine, and the knife cant even cut computer paper
