Yes, I've often wondered how good (or bad) the Peacekeepers are. I suppose as an all-weather defense only knife, it's probably okay. I'd like to see someone review them. I've heard 420 can be made to be acceptable, but that you can't get blood from a turnip.Cliff Stamp said:The only real performance issue is mainly with the use of 420 stainless and the big hype about deep cryo on that steel, which is one of the few stainless that benefit least from that treatement because it is a really low alloy stainless.
I've also noticed CS can give catalog readers 2-3 paragraphs of garbage before even getting into their product. The Desperado is an example of pure hype. Who cares about outlaws who were feared, etc. The online version is brief: "The Desperado of the Old West -- a legendary fixture of American folklore. As the name suggests, this was a desperate man, an outlaw, with nothing left in life to lose, and an astonishing reputation to be gained. With this unbeatable attitude, and some formidable skills with a gun and a knife, he became one fierce opponent, worthy of respect and often, widely feared."
Oh, yes, and they love that word "astonishing" or "astonishingly." It pops up all the time in their copy. "Atonishingly sharp" or sharp for an "astonishingly long time." I have to admit I like their knives, but hype is hype.
BTW, here's a 5-inch 420 blade that has the exact shape and so forth as their AUS 8 Vaquero. It also would be interesting to see how these two blades fare in the same tests. Two identical blades in two astonishingly different steels. I'll bet a comparison would be...well...astonishing.
