Yeah OK I know threads such as this stir the pot a little, but I just wondered which of these two you considered the best knife ?
Please give genuine reasons " Cold steel are crap " doesn't count as a genuine reason. I think the Finn Bear looks the nicer knife and from what I have heard they come razor sharp and the steel used ain't too shabby when it comes to edge retention. I know a Mora will score you more cred on this forum but I'm keen to hear from people who own and use both what they REALLY think !!!

I think someone just posted a reveiw/test between those two knives, and the Mora was the clear winner. Try doing a search for cold steel and mora, if you can, or look through the last 3 or 4 pages on this subforum.

I think there was a thread on this exact topic that went for several pages. Might have the answer to your question, if you can dig it up. If I remember correctly, the general consensus was a resounding "MORA!"

In my opinion, none of Cold Steel's "economy grade" knives cost enough to worry about, and I'll bet they are all adequate knives at the very least. Every time I see those Roach Belly knives in that same series I'm tempted to get one. And I'm still impressed with their full size Bushman.

Here it is Pitdog!

No question, MORA...twice the knife due to the steel. Gene

Pit,I own both and like them both very much. The Finn bear has a better sheath,so far. Stingray says there was a test/review. It was just a popularity contest which the Mora won handily. The Moras probably have the edge, steelwise, especially carbon and laminated versions.

Oh yes, And giving the other knife the nod based on your opinion about the thing you carry it in holds way more water.:jerkit:

I have 2 moras(clipper and classic) and my buddy has the Finn Bear - in my opinion you can't go wrong with EITHER for the price. But my classic was about 5 bucks cheaper and has better steel. And the clipper is just rugged as hell, I would put it against my buddies knife in ANY test.

At the end of the day you are still fighting over who's the tallest midget - as neither knife is truly amazing. But thats just my biased opinion.

Did you check out the link we posted? Hardly a popularity contest. They both performed the exact same tests, and the mora just performed better. Perhaps you saw a different test/reveiw?

That's a good, thorough, honest test IMO. I own a Finn Bear and a stack of Moras, as well as a Roach Belly. I like the Finn Bear (and the Roach Belly even more), but there's no doubt that the Mora has superior steel, and IMO it's a better knife.

Incidentally, there's a thread somewhere on the Roach Belly, with pics of the Finn Bear tang.

The Mora is definitly better than the Finn Bear. One of the unmentiond reasons is because of how easy it is to sharpen.

absolutely on ease of sharpness. This would be a hard one for me. I would probably go with a mora just because I like carbon, but the only thing keeping me back is the overall ruggedness of the finn bear. I've batoned mine, and watched jerry and scott gossman just baton the utter snot out of one without a dent on it.

Here is a review of the roach belly.
Almost the same knife in terms of ruggedness and usability. Same materials, ETC.

Midnite penguin, I didn't give either knife the nod. I own 10 moras, two finn bears. i pointed out something that lots of others have, which is that moras have crappy sheaths and guys like Normark can fix that. How you carry a knife is important because your mora can't cut nothing if it is lying on the trail ten miles back. I believe(Means don't quote me) that Mors Kochanski recommends carrying your Mora on your neck so that you always know where it is. You quote me and misunderstand what I was saying and then you crack about the tallest midget(which was funnier than hell). I guess you didn't see the part about where I said I like them BOTH VERY MUCH. Funny seeing as you cut and pasted it into your reply

Take my jabs a little softer Flnder - I'm very cynical by nature. I wasn't misunderstanding so much as I was retorting to your accusation that Sting's test was a popularity contest. I guess I just don't put a lot of stock in what sheath it comes with from the manufacturer when comparing 2 knives, or at least it would be way down on my list.(while on the other hand I do agree that a good sheath is important). But lets not squabble over the internet, especially over 10 dollar knives =)

My main Mora(#2 I believe) came with a nice sheath - A leather one from Ragweed treated w/ melted beeswax to make it super durable. Wears very nicely around the neck since its so sleek and light. I would reccomend people go this way for their wood handled Mora, or just get a simple leather one made.

Mr Penguin,First I must apologise. I never linked to stingrays thread,I assumed it was a similar recent thread, which was just a popualrity contest, you know the ones "+1 for mora" like that. That thread led me to use a finn bear sheath to keep my laminated mora in,best of two worlds. I do like the Finn bear sheath,I find it more useful than Cold Steel's concealex sheaths(me ducking here)
