I'm thinking of getting a Cold Steel folder. Can I sharpen the serrations on their folders with a Spyderco sharpener, or does it have to be returned to the company?

As far as I know the serrations cannot be sharpened and CS won't sharpen them for you. They could have changed their policy lately, but that is what I've heard.

Hi! I have a CS Voyager with a half serrated edge, and I have NO problems whatsoever sharpening it on my Spyderco ceramic sticks. As a matter of fact, the Spyderco sharpener is for sale in the Cold Steel catalog. It says that it is the best for sharpening CS blades! My Voyager is SHARP and LIGHT...you should have no problems with yours.

Thanks.

Cs makes great fixed blades. Folders are different...not quite as good..

..but still good enough. I have no problems with my Vogagers, one clip, one tanto. Take and hold a decent edge, lock reliably. Good users. Wish they'd make one with a Carbon V blade, though. I could live with the remote chance of corrosion.

Either that or stick with a plain edge.
I had one once and it held an edge well, I trashed it when the clip broke.
If they redid their clips like Spyderco I might get another.

CS folders seem to be either liked or hated. I just take them for what they are...I have 4 of them and they are very good IMO. The locks are surprisingly solid, the blades sharp and seem to hold a decent edge. I also don't like the Zytel clips, but if I broke my clip, I'd probably have filed the rest of it flat and carried it as a pocket knife.

I prefer the plain edges myself.

You can sharpen CS serrations just fine w/ your Spydie Sharpmaker! My only CS folder is the Vaquero Grande and I like it. I don't care for their other folders at all...they feel and look cheap. I won't carry a folder w/ any platic parts.

I like like CS folders. Hard knife to beat for $50.00

Seriously, I think CS is a distant second in the Zytel-knife market but still second, none the less. BM's Ascents are plagued with problems, Gerbers fail if you look at them funny, and few others even rate mention (though I'll admit I haven't given the Field-Lites a fair look). If you want a Zytel handled knife and you don't like "the hole", CS is where to go. Of course, CRKT and Outdoor Edge will give you an excellent aluminum-handled knife for the same money...
