Cold Steel G.I Tanto vs. Schrade schf3 extreme survival

I have some questions about these knives. I know about the controversy's with cold steel and I don't want to spark any arguments over designs and such. All I want to know is which of these knives are going to fit my tasks the best. Ok, which of these knives would make a better knife for military use? I have the schrade schf3 and I love it, but the sheath is a joke because the retention strap uses a simple snap that comes undone easily ( check out the link below to look at the sheath). I like the tanto for it's sheath ( retention without a strap) but I am iffy on buying a made in china knife. Is the schrade schf3 made in usa? I havn't been able to find any info on that aspect of the knife. The tanto is ever so slightly big for my tasts, but may get the job done. Besides being used for last line of defense, which of these blades would fit that role as well as general utility and survival purposes. Any help is appreciated.

Pretty sure all Schrade knives are made in China now, fixed blades and folders. I think the one that you have was designed by a member of this forum.

I would go with a lighter, more compact fixed blade and a good folder instead of one fixed blade that weighs over 10oz. and takes up that whole side of your chest. You'll use the folder all the time, along with your multi-tool...the fixed blade is there like a 3rd or 4th magazine, just in case. Besides that maybe some fun throwing it around during down time and it makes natives a little more cautious.

I owned a similar Schrade, used it a bit, put it's sheath insert into a similar nylon sheath, but then gave it to my Brother. I think the blade, edge, HT, and it's overall strength are pretty good. The rubber scales move a bit under real hard use, but they work. If you can upgrade the sheath, and like the knife, just go with it.
I cannot comment on the CS G.I. Tanto, as I have never held it.

I'm haven't used either, but I'll give you my 2 cents. Have you considered the Cold Steel SRK? You get what can be arguably considered a better steel for the intended use, a more comfortable handle, a very strong tip design, better sheath, and a length closer to what you want. It is about $20 more expensive than the Schrade, though. The belt loop was designed with input from the Navy Seals who issued it for Basic Underwater Demolition Training.

my friend and I picked up the older cord wrapped gi tanto's for truck beaters and they are a pretty good knife. It is my buddies only fixed blade and he has used his a lot harder than me and has held up well.
I can't think of a tougher fixed for the 20 bucks I spent
It is a lot of fun to throw and sticks well
