Cold Steel gone too far?

i'm with you...coldsteel's advertising antics have never appealed to me, even the hilarious swordproof DVD where he slashes at sides of beef...

in general it seems like he doesn't really get that people besides those who entirely agree with him about everything will be looking at his products.

i personally look more at the product than the advertising, but alot of people won't look twice after reading something like that. just seems like bad business running to me...

i have a couple of cold steel knives and they are great, but if i based what i bought off of advertising, lynn's idea of advertising would put be off entirely.

He obviously doesnt live in Texas where its 103 degrees. Even stepping outside makes me feel like I am melting. We all basically run from AC to AC.

The Arab character thing really doesnt bother me because some of them actually look like that (minus the scimtars). If you are looking for sympathy for the poor poor OPEC thugs you are not gonna get much from me.

Stereotyping in general doesn't bother me. I don't know why people take it personally and get their panties in a bunch. If somebody called you ugly would you take it as personally, probably not even though that is something specific to you, but if somebody called you arab, mexican, black, or white you would want to hurt them. I don't why it is so. Just let it roll off your back and don't let it get to you.

Ok Ok politics and stuff aside......anyone think of whats going to happen to BikeDude when he bails on the bike and falls onto the pointy knife?

hahahaha

The real deal

I lived in Ft. Worth for almost 7 years and rode at least a hundred miles a week on my bike. Three friends and I used to ride the Cowtown Classic 100 miler and the Hotter than Hell 100 every year. Get out and get used to it and it's not that bad. I worked outside on a Power plant Construction Project most of the day also.

As far as LT is concerned; he's a dick as usual. I used to like some of the CS stuff but the current line does not interest me. I still have a few old and rare ones though that I still like.

We had a bit of fun at Thompson's expense last night over this. IMO, it's kinda silly, misses the mark some, but not really offensive. Editorial cartoons are full of caricatures. My only real criticism of it is that it's pretty amateurish all around.

I'm a big fan of some the high-end stuff CS does, even if LT is kinda like the P.T. Barnum of the knife industry.

the only thing that is offensive is that Lynn is much fatter in real life. . by the way I like some of his stuff very much

Agreed. I own several Cold Steel knives. I actually like my old Carbon-V fixed blades a lot more than some current, highly respected brands.

It's Lynn Thompson's constant, living proof of the "fat, arrogant, blowhard American" stereotype that I have a problem with.

He fits that unflattering stereotype a lot closer in real life than the "greedy Arab oil-baron" does in the drawing.

I don't find this offensive. A bit silly, perhaps, but it's an editorial cartoon, just like every other editorial cartoon. And even if you did take this seriously, what is offensive about it? It would be more realistic if it had a Mexican or Canadian, but it's not saying, "Let's burn the Koran, call Muhammed a pig, and kill all of you ragheads." It's just saying, "You guys have a bunch of oil, and you want American money." Which is true.
