I received a new Cold Steel Hold Out II model in the mail and the back spring was extremely stiff so closing the knife was difficult and deployment slow due to the stiff spring. I was wondering if I got a lemon or if that is a defect in the entire model? It has the Tri Ad lock so are do all these knives with it come with a very heavy spring? I am returning the knife for a refund due to this as I don't think a $65+ knife should be this way. Anyone else have this experience?

I didn't know these knives were out yet. PICS. DO IT.

Also, my American Lawman was insanely tough to open out of the box. Seriously, it took two men and a boy to deploy the friggin' thing. After a little bit of 3-in-1 oil and working the mechanism, it loosened up and is now pretty darn smooth for a lockback. This is probably the case with your knife - just give it a bit of oil and work the action a bit and it should get better.

All Tri-Ad lock knives have very strong back springs. My Spartan is too tough for children and women to unlock, my AL is hardly less, and my customized Black Rhino is doable but will still leave prints on your thumb. ;)
I think it's part of the system.

Thanks for the input, good to know it is not just my knife. No pic as I don't have a digital camera, Amazon has them in stock and will have another one in a couple of days.

All triad locks have this problem. Their are some fixes to this on YouTube and keeping it oiled helps.

My recon 1 tri-ad is nothing like ya'll are describing? If its in the design to have a stiff spring, then I got a defective one.
