Cold Steel Immortal.

So if I understand CS correct, that would be TWO tanto points (only one sharpened of course), as the knife is symmetrical.

What an odd choice of an description for the Immortal ad.

Must be because (American style) Tantos sell in large numbers. Ohh, well...

A saving grace is of course the word 'almost.'
Its 'almost' like a tanto, which implies, that even CS themselves cant believe anybody would buy into the knife having a tanto likeness.

Ad also says " Gladius inspired shape " . Maybe they just said tanto because they know that sells and many potential buyers wouldn't know what gladius meant .

The Gladius design cues are obvious, so no problem with that.

Yes, as mentioned in my post above, CS might have mentioned tanto, because it sells.

I like some CS products but the ad throwing tanto in the mix with Gladius seems beyond silly.

Maybe it triggers the buying gene of the keyboard ninjas.

(Said the guy who has several CS tantos ;-) ).

Yeah, the "tactical" appeal is deffinitely there, it's different and I like different. I was drawn to it as a stout work knife that I could scrape and possibly pry with (yeah, I know, but sometimes you gotta. More than once in my time have I opened a can with whatever blade I had on me).

The potential lock misdesign has me a little on the fence, however. Still not sure if I'll grab one or not. Thanks all for the insight and info.

I feel like this has some of the things you'll see in spydercos, in the efforts to try and design something new and different you get something very polarizing (love/hate) and probably not that practical or very limited in what it's practical for.

I have recently become a fan of some of the cold steel offerings but this is one that just doesn't make sense to me unless the looks do it for you. The cold steel Spartan is another one, which I did buy, but eventually resold because it was cool but I really couldn't find a good use for it over the plethora of better options, including those within cold steel's own line of knives.

If you're looking for a 4" blade from CS, I highly recommend the broken skull. I say this a lot about this knife, "stupid name, great design."

Bottom line, if the immortal gets you excited about using it then there's nothing wrong with carrying it (assuming it's legal and all that). Many, many knives work just fine for EDC even if it's not "optimal." Nothing wrong with carrying a knife that looks good to you but may not be ideal for just cutting.

The Immortal is my first Cold Steel and I admit I picked it up solely on looks. It's a toy that sometimes gets carried even tho it's not optimal as bikerector stated. It's an interesting blade.
