cold steel KNIVES. JUST. KNIVES

Have become a fan of CS in the last year or two, love the AK's, Recons, and fixed blades. Also recently purchased a scimitar in like new condition and if had to choose one knife for self defense this would probably be it.

Monk.... it really turned out pretty. how hard was it to disassemble and re-assemble the knife? i'm afraid i might not be able to put it back together LOL

I don't remember it being too hard to take apart or put back together, although I remember there being one little stop pin or something that I spent a few minutes trying to finagle into place. Still, though, I'm pretty mechanically inept so I imagine it wouldn't be that hard for most folks.

Regardless of the knife I have in my pocket, when there is something 'nasty' to cut, I consistently reach for my 4" Voyager to do the heavy lifting. Truth be told, as much as I enjoy other brands, I rely on Cold Steel knives for about 70% of my cutting chores. Why? Because they perform as advertised and now with the Tri-Ad locks, I trust them even more.

As for the 'proof' videos, they show you what you could do with CS knives, not what you should do with their knives. I don't know why so many have difficulty with the differentiation. Where warranty issues are concerned, in the past, CS covered their folders for one year and their fixed blades for 5 years. Many complained that the time periods were not industry standard and Cold Steel listened. Their warranty is now without time constraints and is very much like Spyderco's warranty in nature, which is good enough for me.

Let's see pics of that voyager :p

But I agree with you 100%

started with the old voyager, tanto spike, urban pal, mini tac Tanto, now spartan.

TTpower, if you're concerned about the paint, just go to Autozone and piclup a little bottle of touchup paint. Some people don't care, they seem to think it shows they use their knife. I on the other hand do like my knives to look nice.....even though I beat the crap out of them. My CS Recon1 clip point has the same problems paint wise. I just shake the bottle and touch it up. Autozone has the flat black and the gloss black, I go with the gloss for my Recon1. Works great.

Yep.Ha! The CS Recon's do get looked at. I don't really understand it. I think it's because of the black color teflon more than the size of the piece. That freeking lock is so loud - as soon as you open it everyone around you looks. I've had many look and almost 100% of the time....it's the Recon clip point. I've been using my HEST folder, built like a tank, I carry both of them with the HEST on my strong side - makes quite a combination.

I have a couple of Trail Masters and Recon Scouts in SK5, Carbon V and SAN MAI III. Although I have a lot of other knives, I consider these knives as excellent. The San Mai III Trail Masters and Recon Scouts are in the same range of quality as the Fällkniven A1/A2. The SK5 models are slightly less in terms of workmanship, but still very solid blades. I use the Recon Scout and the Trail Master a lot and would trust my life on these blades.

actually you have a very good point there it would be much easier touching it up. same here... i want my knives to look pretty even if i abuse them :p

I have been waiting for a replacement sheath for my safemaker since Nov 2011. Despite their UNACCEPTABLE response time I love Cold Steel. I have 4 different types/sizes of the Voyager. I also have a Safekeeper, Safemaker, Kudu, and a Kobun. I also have 5 of their FGX (plastic) pieces. The Delta dart/ with sheath is a ridiculously nasty and effective (I believe) self defense tool for jogging/bikeriding, etc. I have owned and traded or sold at least a half dozen others. Great products!

Yep. You have the highend CS pieces. Bet those are pretty cool. I'd like to see one of the Recon Scouts in one of those good steels. I'd trust my life to them also, does the Recon get used much? Like camping etc.

Yeah - that's pretty cool. More than likely I'm gonna get the big Voyager in the clip point, then later - the tanto.:D

Ehhh Hemmmm.!!! Point of order, Point of order!!

The old school "Carbon V" Scout and Trailmaster are the highend of CS pieces. It was American made knives with American steel that Lynn flexed and bent all to hell at Blade many years ago. He doesn't do that with his SK-5 stuff from Taiwan.

howd you like that mini tac tanto? I have almost bought it a few times now, but can't find much info on it

Nice Knife, Insanely sharp
You need to practice drawing (ie with the spine rubbing on the sheath) or the knife will dull quick

Also I use paracord to carry it around my neck in stead of the sink chain.
Personally I find it a tad more stiff than the sink chain thus the knife stays put a tad better when I need to draw (still not perfect though).

I've been here. I've said that. (and i actually checked around the site this time)
not talking about the warranty. we've been there. i already sent mine out and it don't matter if the warranty DOES suck at this point anyways.
i'm talking about the knives. just the knives, axes, etc. i don't even wanna SEE THE WORD "warranty":barf: :D
you all think THEY'RE good right?
cuz i do:)

I Really enjoy reading your post. Thanks for sharing
