Cold Steel Kobun Info on steel

I was just doing some knife searching and have been looking at the kobun for a while, I noticed that in the picture of the knife the blade said "Taiwan" and it was made of AUS-8A.
I thought they were made in china with a different steel, is it an older generation? Or do they maybe have different versions in production?
any info is appreciated,

All I can say is that the current Cold Steel web site description says the blades are AUS8
