Cold steel Lawman

The CS Lawman is simply a kick ass knife in terms of durability, usefulness, reliability, quality, and value for the money. I am under the impression that this it is more of an all purpose utility design rather than a self defense/weapon design.

The blade is only about 3 1/2 inches long and a wide one at that. The design is more suited for cutting rather than stabbing. The lock is one of the strongest ones out there though.

I have to say that Cold Steel does make quite a few other knives that are very well suited for defense. I would not hesitate to recommend a Cold Steel product.

For defensive carry I recommend

No parts to break. Fast, effective, has a proven track record, fewer legal restrictions, less training needed and much easier to explain in court.

Talking about baseball bats, the Louisville Slugger bats are not as unbreakable as the Brooklyn bats of Cold Steel (yet again, Cold Steel :)). Made of high quality and density polypropylene it will not shatter/ crack (Aluminum bats weakness)/ split (wood bats weakness).

I own the short and long version and it may not be typical for baseball/softball but it is good for home defense. That and the seriously mad Indian war club.

Dada dada dada dada dada dada dada da...Batmaaaaaan!

Why so serious?

The Lawman is a well built knife indeed, but when you get below 4-inches, you're really only relying on a slashing device. The one criticism of the AK-47 (also designed by Andrew Demko) is that you really need that extra 1/2-inch. If you need a really strong lock, I recommend the Recon 1. I didn't realize how formidable it looked until I saw someone else holding it and snapping it open.

There's a lot to be said for reach in a knife and I go for at least 4-inches in a blade. I think if you carried an AK-47 CS around with you for a day, then a Recon 1, you wouldn't find any substantial drawbacks to the latter.

I have owned, carried, and trained with the American Lawman. But in NO WAY is this knife fit for a primary tactical SD folder or back up tactical SD folder.

When looking for a SD folding knife, the main things you should be seeking are:
1. ease of deployment, with both right and left hand (Strong hand/Support hand) Lawman lacks alot in this capacity.. Hard to get open due to the strong lock and the way the pivot and the base of the blade are designed due to the design of the lock. When in a tight spot that your life may be in danger, you want super easy, super smooth, almost effortless deployment from pocket.. The Lawman does not offer this...

As a utility blade it would be very useful, it does have one of the strongest locks I've ever seen, good steel, aggressive textured G-10, pocket clip could be better though..
Great knife for the price.. If you are looking toward cold steel for a tactical SD folder, I would check out the Recon 1, it opens MUCH smoother than the lawman..
