Cold Steel Leatherneck

I really like a lot of the new 2011 cold steel knives (I just got the catalog in the mail). I probably won't buy this knife for the same reason that I don't buy a USMC KaBar or a recon Scout. The blade length is too short for a good chopper and too long for most of the things I do with a belt knife. That being said I will recommend it to my friends.

I'm with you on the price. Amazinglly though, the weight difference is only 4 ounces

What's a hammered ass? I've read about this knife but obviously haven't seen it and it if it is anything like other CS fb's it will probably out perform a KABAR by a mile. Blade is thicker, mar tempered SK-5, probably a better grip material that won't rot away in a very humid environment, full flat grind and I think just slightly over 3/16" thick and same goes for the sheath as it won't rot away, deform etc.etc. I have a KABAR and I have a CASE Kabar and truthfully the Case blows away the Olean made Kabar for quality of build and ease of sharpening. So I think looking at the CS offering it may not be a "classic" kabar but there take on it that may just be better. Will know when I get one. keepem sharp
 
A Ka-Bar type knife with full wide tang and flat grind with a Grivory / Kraton grips & secure-ex sheath. In SK5 steel.

I dismissed this initially with a meh
, but thats actually quiet nice . And an improvement on the traditional design.
That kind of stacked leather handle grips is very comfortable to hold.
 
I think it will actually be very good. Better than the original. I want an X-ray pic of the tang, and how is the pommel fastened to it? If I can get satisfactory answers to these questions, I'll buy one.

I can hardly wait for these. They should take somewhat more abuse and cut better than the KBs.
But if the grip fully encloses the "extra wide full tang" there are still those nasty 90 degree angles.
