I know how many of you feel about cold steel but i would like your opinion on the matter. I purchased a tanto magnum IX ( ithink thats what it is). its 12" long and ofcourse the cold steel site pices it at around $400. Do you think a cold steel knive will retain its value/ increase its value in the long long run or do you think it will stay the same or depreciate. im thinking of selling mine but i wont if this thing is gonna be worth alot some day--thank marekz--i hope this is the correct forum

I guess anything's possible, but I'm guessing it's a bad choice as an "investment" knife.

It's not all that rare, Cold Steel has been selling them for a decade or 2 and continues to do so.

Even if they stopped selling them today, I just don't foresee a huge demand in the future for old factory built, rubber handled, American-tanto style knives.

so after all that, i saw use the sucker and do the things they do to their knives in their videos ! Find a good junkyard that's willing to let you play Marekz ! Personally, how about a video of that CS tanto going through an old car door ! :D

i think it might be worth a lot *someday* but not in our lifetime ! Maybe in a hundred or more years

Yo Leu forget about it, everyone makes mistakes sometime. i personally think the knife is excellent but as you kinda implied-the hoopla around it is a bunch o shite. I was scared to even ask but i had to be strong and atleast try/. lol. thanks -marekz

Never implied you made a mistake Marekz ! I just know that Cold Steel stuff makes claims about what their blades can do ! So I just wanted to see a fellow BFer do some testing ! :D

There's got to be a collector forum that might be a better venue for this question. My impression of the Cold Steel Tanto knives I owned when they were the hot item to have (25 years ago or therabouts) was that I thought they were hot s$%^&* until I learned how to make my own knives, then I was quickly disillusioned ( I had a cold steel mini-tanto, and my father had the full sized and several other of their knives) I found that any properly heat treated piece of O-1 with the appropriate geometry could cut better, and still survive being punched through a car door. Geometry cuts, I didn't like the geometry of the Cold Steel knives.

Just my opinion
