I am a fan of wood and leather so....
This is my Cold Steel Master Hunter, made from San Mai III laminated steel.
I bougt it last week. Removed kraton handle, made new handle from wood (I dont now what kind of wood is it; it is very hard - few cuts and knife gets dull - it has yellow dust when sanding, iz splits along the fibres), add brass rivets and make new leather sheath. It feels very confortable in hand. This weekend I will start to use it. There are chances it will become my favourite all around knife. What do you think?

That sounds a bit like Ipe. We use it for decking and it has yellowish green dust when cut or sanded. The dust is mildly toxic so dont breath it and wash your skin that might have come in contact with it. At work the dust burns my face a bit, especially when its hot out. Like mild sunburn.

To the point, that knife looks outstanding friend! Ive never really dug the MH but I sure dig that one!

Now that looks beautiful compared to what it was. Good job on the new handle now get out and use it. lol

Very cool! Looks like a very comfy handle...I bet it works like a dream! -Matt-

Wow, Great quality mod to that knife. It looks 100% better than a rubber handle.

Is it a partial tang?

Very nice! Sheath looks good too!
Just out of curiosity how wide was the tang under the kraton?

I have 2 of them and certainly changes the way it looks. Good project there man!

Awesome work, that looks great now ! I'm guessing the tang comes back at least as far as the second pin eh !!!

Is this because there's silica in Ipe? I know that there's silica in Teak, which is why it's so hard on tools when you're working with it. I would assume that silica dust could cause the skin irritation. Anyone know for sure?
