Cold Steel Mini Tuff

Don't get me wrong I don't particularly care for cold steel or their followers but the mini tuff is more than legal for my area, a decent ENOUGH steel and its $20. this might just have to be a wth knife.

The plain version doesn't look bad, the serrated version looks kind of craptastical.

Getting a 5.5" Tri-Ad Voyager for about the same price as a CS Spartan sounds good.

Edit:Ooh, and the 3" Voyager is about the same price as a Kershaw Skyline. Now that could be a nice, tough EDC knife.

And it doesn't say, but the clip point and Vaquero Voyagers look like FFG, not hollow grinds. This lineup is looking better by the minute.

yeah but I dont really care for pinned knives

By "pinned" do you mean that they have friction fit pins where you would like there to be threaded pins held in with fasteners? Because I'm pretty sure that the pins in Tri-Ad lock knives are not friction fit but are turned down on the ends so that they are retained by the frame as long as the knife is bolted together.

If you mean something else by "pinned," I'm curious.

By pinned I mean I can't take the knife apart. If I can't the part to clean it and see its guts than I don't want it.

Tri-Ad knives can be taken apart. The new designs look basically the same as my Spartan, which can be taken apart with a T-6 bit and a T-10 bit. Oh, and I just checked the pins, and they are turned down so that they are retained by the liners.

Wait so the voyagers can be taken apart? I know the spartan can be taken apart I have one from a while baxck. Idk why I purchased it in retrospect.

Might be a good small knife for openning envelopes and boxes.

But the final product may look different.

I was wondering what it looked like..

Hmmm, tip down carry is a bit annoying, but for an EDC utility blade its not too bad. Also, since its a Tri-Ad, the lock should stay tight for many decades of use.

sidenote: I actually do think it's a decent little knife. If it weren't a lockback I might even give it a chance. But the Boker Subcom Titan seems utterly superior in its size and price range. Titanium framelock and 440C....for the win.

I'm kinda the opposite now. Tri-Ad locks have gotten me back into lockbacks and away from frame locks and liner locks. I like the ambidexterity of lockbacks, too.
