Is an "american tomahawk" with the new state of the art handles and blade worth the cost of two or three standard "vietnam tomahawks?"

I figured that no, it wasn't But I just changed my mind after ordering a pair of the green tomahawks made by cold steel. My girlfriend likes bladed weapons so I gave her one and went to the backyard with mine to check it out. No throwing! I wacked some lightweight moulding boards that were on the ground, hit the fence with it a few times just to feel how much power it took to penetrate a soft target. I swear, I did not throw it. So now the damn thing has a chip, the lower corner of the blade just broke off and I am wondering why the heck Cold Steel would sell such a p.o.s. with a recommended retail of $60. I just read something yesterday from their ceo going on and on about how they are such a great product and everything, yet for $40 they sell a hatchet with a blade that breaks when it touches pine wood. I can get a german made crash axe for 20 bucks from the local harbor freight tool shop and file that thing down however I want to think I just might do that now. . .

That bites. Same go for their trail hawk? I think they have a warranty of some sort...

wow i am surprised and relieved i didn't get roasted for buying a cold steel tomahawk. haha. No big deal I suppose, got them way cheap so I can file it away. . . think i might take off the spike too so it comes out of the sheath faster.

Since it got me to this place, i suppose they were well worth the price! Now I can buy real knives direct from the makers.

I just received one and will get to use it this weekend. I'll let you know how it worked out.

I will never trust anyone saying they have the definitive Vietnem era hawk unless they are actually American Tomahawk. If it doesn't have Lagana in the model description I don't want it.

cold steel heads are supposed to have a lifetime guarantee so i would try and get a replacement at least for a wall hanger

I recommend contacting Cold Steel. Basically, cut and paste your post, and ask if it's covered. I think they'll send you a new one.

My CS hawk has done well. Yours is obviously defective. Send it back. No hawk should chip, even if thrown.

I have the same hawk and have been throwing it for years. No problems with chipping. Call them up. I'm sure they'll do right by you.

The way Cold Steel wants you to handle it is like this (I had to return a broken handled Vietnam Tomahawk, and I threw it... and I told them I threw it, too):
Call their toll-free number, they will tell you to mail it back.
They are willing to exchange for the same item, or another of equal value...
Or if you insist, they will give you a fefund...

Call them!!! You will be glad you did...

Cold Steel??? They will do you right!!!
I broke a Cold Steel Vietnam Tomahawk by THROWING IT!!!
I called Cold Steel and told them that!!!
I had 3 options:

1) Exchange for a new one
2) Refund
3) Exchange for something of equal value

I chose option #3, and got this Cold Steel Frontier Hawk, plus 3 spare handles!!!

Like Glock says, just call them up and return it -- in my experience Cold Steel is good about accepting returned items when an item falls short QC-wise. I have found their products pretty good for the most part.

Nice job on the Frontier Hawk, by the way.
