Cold Steel New Atlas Lock Video

I had thought of the shark lock as a continued development of the ram lock. As the ram lock wasnt good enough to call completed. Shorten the lock so its not sticking out of the bottom. Since you dont have the bottom exposed anymore, theres a tab on the back side to pull the lock down to disengage. This could also be accomplished other ways.

This new atlas lock, they just took the ram/shark lock and added similar locking points that the triad has.

Does that mean it could potentially take more punishment than the Tri-Ad lock? Since the load is distributed on two pins instead of one?

Oof! It's fascinating to me how simple questions don't always have easy answers.

Just answering this means we would have to know what they made the lockbar and stop pins out of, as well as the liners.

If all of the metal is the same metal as the blade, and properly heat-treated, we could do some surface area calculations. If the force coming through the blade is spread over the same amount of surface area as in a Triad lock, then they should be able to hold the same amount of weight.

You would also need to know some careful measurements off a Triad lock.

I think. Probably. This is why I feel like we need somebody with a bigger degree than what I have. In a more relevant field, too.

Another problem I see is that the clamp actually slips, so the force vector changes during the test....

One pin can easily equal the strength of two, just use a bigger pin.
The question is size, the Atlas Lock looks like an improvement in Strength to Weight.

That said it is entirely possible that chopping knives will always be better suited to the Tri-Ad since using a bigger pin to beef up the lock will inherently make the stop pin more suitable for taking the impact of chopping wood.

I think this lock is as strong as anyone is ever going to need i doubt anyone can put enough force on it to defeat this .Just wish the lock release tab was a little bit further foward on the back instead of the middle pretty cool design though might wind up w one .
