Has anybody tried one of these?

Murphy's Law indicates that bad stuff will happen to you at the worst possible time.

I was thinking about it and I have decided that the worst possible time for someone to break into the house is when I'm taking a shower. That is the only time that I won't have a firearm within arm's reach.

I think that it might be a good idea to put a "Nightshade" shiv. . . er I mean knife in the shower on a suction cup hook just in case Murphy shows up.

I am thinking about getting the "FGX Push Blade I" found on

http://www.coldsteel.com/nightshadeseries.html .

If you have any experience with these knives, or if you want to suggest a different knife, please leave a post. Thanks in advance for the replies.

nightshade is their composite series correct? don't bother with it, it's a joke. get yourself a 10 dollar stainless blade or something, or find a russian underwater subgun ;)

Well, they say they are good to store around the house as last-ditch self defense, because they can be hidden outdoors, in flower pots, etc. Seems like this would be their legitimate use, that and perhaps as trainers.

Your going about it all wrong. If you are concerned about someone interfering with your shower, take a bath instead. By taking a bath, you can then have your loaded .45 right next to you. And also a nice adult beverage and a cigar go good at these times.

This way you do not have to worry about keeping a shiv - err I mean knife hanging in your shower. What would your wife say if she found a shiv - err I mean knife hanging in the shower?

Probably the same thing mine says when I leave my gun near the bathtub.:D
Guess I better leave the adult beverage behind, huh?;)

How bout a good ole diving knife stashed under the sink? This one I got from Blue Reef for about $30 ...420 steel it aint going to rust, there is a titanium version also. Guaranteed to perforate.

I personally like them despite the nay-sayers. i carry them with me into concerts and night clubs that search people and i know they are gonna use wands or detectors. keep them in my shoes walk through go to the bathroom remove from shoes stash in pockets and bingo, big fan of the polymer knuckles as they dont even ned to penetrate. i sure as heck wouldn't want to be staabbed with one btw.

I have several of them. I use them to give my hands something to do while I'm watching TV. As a weapon. they can be lethal, but they are limited, I sure wouldn't want to get stuck with one. Nearly anything can be a weapon, in the right hands. I read an analysis by some law enforcement agency or other, years ago, that an average room has something like 165 items that can be a weapon in it.

I have a CAT Tanto. This thing will pierce clothes and flesh with absolutely no trouble at all. It is a 1000x better than nothing for SD. It can even slice a bit.
No, it does not compare to a knife. But it is definitely a weapon.

you are really overthinking it.
Yep, take a breath and realize slipping in the shower is more of a concern then an attacker intent on hurting you. Though if you really are that concerned maybe stick a composite handled hammer in your shower and just krylon the metal parts. A good hammer is better then all these pseudo weapons.

I've got the FGX Tai Pan. Can't cut worth a damn, not surprisingly, but it's a pretty solid stabber. As has been mentioned, I wouldn't want to get stabbed by one. For a couple bucks, they're not bad. I mean, hey, you're paying for a plastic knife.

I would just get a tenacious and have MSC duracoat it like nutnfancy and viola, you have a deadly rust proof blade...

Or get a spyderco H1...

I completely agree with wanting to stay prepared, in the shower. Things tend to happen at the worst possible time. If you are going to get home invaded, I can see it being while you're dropping a deuce or taking a shower NOT while you were just about to take the mag out of the 45 so that you could clean it. Things never work out, like that.

Nightshade series? They're alright, they'll damn sure poke a hole in a human body, don't let anyone tell ya they wont. And when it gets dropped (in the shower) the lack of a nice razor sharp edge would be a plus :-)

All in all, I think its a great choice :-)
