Cold Steel - Oyabun or Kobun?

Jeff
I got the impression that you were planning on using the knife for various tasks (ie chopping things) I think for that kind of work the RT was the right choice.

As I stated I own the Oyabun and it is a good defense type knife but it lacks in weight for a chopping/utility blade. I think that you will really enjoy the Cold Steel, in my opinion they make a hell of a product for the $$$$.

If you are ever looking at getting a "beafy" chopper which is still cary friendly to add to the collection (never can have enough:) ) you might want to check out their Recon Scout. I love that thing:D It's easier to carry than my Kukuri or my Trailmaster it's thick enough to chop fire wood and it re-sharpens with ease. Just a thought. Take care.

Centurian,

The weight and blade thickness of the Recon Scout helped to make up my mind alright. That, and it's use of Carbon V steel.

You can bet I've got my eye on the Recon Scout. I saw it yesterday at the local knife shop, but didn't have a chance to handle it. They are quite a lot more money, so I'll have to wait awhile if I want o buy one of those. I may enjoy that knife more than a Trailmaster. This is the other model I have been drooling over. You actually have chopped firewood with your Recon Scout, have you? How big were the pieces?
Do you use your Trailmaster very much? As you mentioned, it is harder to carry.

JEFF,1911 SOUNDS LIKE A COLT 45. WELL I LIVE IN PA. I WAS OUT IN MY BACK YARD WHICH LEADS RIGHT DOWN INTO A SMALL RAVINE TAKING A SMALL HIKE. I LIKE TO MAKE WALKING STICKS AND CANES. THIS VINE STICKING OUT OF THE GROUND AND CLIMBING STRAIGHT UP INTO A PINE.IT HAD NICE LOOK TO IT ,STRAIGHT AND HAD A NICE L SHAPED HANDLE AT THE OTHER END.SO I STARTED CUTTING & HACKING. IT TOOK ME ABOUT 5 MINS ON EACH END( A LITTLE LONGER THAN TWO WHACKS ;)). THE TWO WHACKS WAS DONE THIS SUMMER ON SOFTER VINES.THE OTHER WAS DONE IN DEAD OF WINTER ,IT TOOK A BIT LONGER.SO THATS WHEN I REALLY USED CS RECON TANTO,IT FELT REALLY SOLID IN MY HAND.SO JUST IMAGINE WHAT IT CAN DO TO SOMEONE OR SOMETHING..... FRANK C.:D

Justright, Centurian...

I really do enjoy the feel of the Recon Tanto. It seems to me very well balanced. I've become VERY interested in some of these beefy cutters made by Cold Steel. I am going to start a new thread re: the
comparison between the recon Scout and the Trailmaster. Thanks for your input about the Recon Tanto issue, fellows.

ps - Justright, you're exactly right! My handle "Jeff/1911" was arrived at a couple years ago in the shooters web circle based upon my affection for the 1911 pattern .45 Auto pistol.
