(Sorry if there is a thread already -- can't find search) Anybody try one of these? Might be nice to carry a knife that doesn't need a sheath, can be wet and pass through metal detectors.

I used them for training knives, the hard plastic tanto thing. Little plastic things are sharp and I have cut open a couple of hands with them (yeah, I believe in realistic training). Strong, durable and cool looking. Don't like the wooden tanto trainers used a lot in dojos.

I hope anyone trying to sneak a weapon made of plastic through a metal detector is not spared the extent of the punishment for concealing a weapon. I am sorry but using that as reasoning for having a knife is a contributing factor in furthering the anti knife agenda.

+100!!

I have a few of the old Delta Darts from a few years back. These were all given as free gifts for purchases. I've used them for garden tarp stakes to hold down cover for plants when it was going to be border line freezing but can't say I've used them for anything else. I have one hanging strategically as a just in case in the event that I need it but otherwise they are nothing more than a neat novelty to me. I would not count on them not being detected in certain detectors. I cannot say for sure that is the case. It may well be but I would not risk going to jail to find out personally.

I have a few, and it is a nice way to get a 'feel' for some of their knives these are direct copies of, without blowing a month's worth of food money!

Aside from playing Ninja Warriors with, I'm not sure they are good for much else. Basically, toys.

i have the karambit, it is okay, i got it as a cheap alternative and for the fun of flipping it around, can it cut? not really. and the tip on mine broke. if you want to get one for fun, like the karambit, sure get it. but if you are trying to get this through a metal detector, that is a very stupid and illegal thing to do

They are inexpensive and could be used in a pinch for stabbing but the plastic won't really take any kind of edge. Good to get a feel for sizing and a novelty, the fact that they are impervious to water and salt is nice but in most cases I would want something like a Tasman salt if I knew I was going to need a knife say, on a boat.

Their copy about hiding them in toilet tanks, showers, flower pots etc seems kinda creepy and paranoid to me but I suppose there's a possible need somewhere for that.

They make fine trainers especially for disarming training, I got two as a gift from one of the good people here (unfortunately I lost his nickname here during my absence, he is a stand up guy). As a weapon well, I think they are somewhat pointless, there are a lot of other things that you can legally carry and not offend anyone, yet are far more effective. In the end its a piece of plastic shaped like a knife. Basically its a toy, that can get you in as much of trouble as a real thing.

don't live spar with another person using these things. They weren't designed for that and will hurt your training partner. At least dull the edge and points if you have to practice "disarming"

I responded a few times to similar threads over the years. I had a "Nightshade" something or other and it was total junk.

As a defense tool, it totally sucked. As a last resort, you could maybe jab it into something relatively soft, but a metal pen would be more effective. A plastic pen might be more effective, for that matter.

As a knife, it couldn't cut anything -- a plastic KFC knife cuts better.

As a "stealth" knife it is about the worst idea I can think of.

Just sayin....

trust me, they WILL be detected in your bag in a metal detector (I had to pass one off/ play dumb as a "letter opener" when caught)

Dunno if they still are manufactured but A.G. Russell's 'CIA Letter Opener' was supposed to be a decent last ditch tool. If memory serves was made of fiberglass in a dagger pattern. Although I'm curious at the need to sneak it through a metal detector.....

Not plotting to sneak one through a metal detector. I just like the idea that one could have a weapon that might get past Big Brother -- or whom ever wants to take your weapons away. And punish you for having one.

Well, they sound too weak anyway...

Part of the reason is that it comes with a metal ring through the top of the handle -- at least my "boot knife" did.....
