Cold Steel Recon 1 (2010 Model) or Spyderco Manix 2

I have both of the knives in question and I find it almost impossible to pick one over the other as a 'tough use' folder. Both knives are plenty strong and if used properly, should give you a lifetime of service. The Manix 2 is more refined, whereas the Recon 1 holds a slight edge in handle comfort for extended use.

Agreed. I would also add that Spyderco will give you a better warranty over the life of the blade (CS is 1 year), provided you do not try to pry the bed off a dumnp truck with it.

No worries, there will be no prying with the knife! Cold Steel may abuse their knives to show strength, but the way I see it, that's a job for a prybar, not a knife....IMHO. Right now I think I'm leaning toward the Manix 2, based on the descriptions here, and reviews online....the same point about the G10 being "too grippy" comes up every time. I just can't see myself being able to get it in and out of my pocket quickly and easily with its size and apparent texture.

I managed to break the lock on a Cold Steel Recon One. Cold Steel replaced it under warranty. However, having said that, I still loved the knife, especially the blade shape (clip, plain edge) and size.

Have a Recon 1, but don't have a Manix 2. I like the slim/light weight to blade size of the Recon 1 (It's no Spyderco Military though). I just can't get fired up about the M2. I like the original M1 over the M2. The ball lock is just not for me, the levers look cheap/gimiky (clear plastic) and don't like the action of it. YMMV
