Since search is down for us freeloaders and I am new to the forums I am going to ask to be pointed in the direction of any reviews or observations you guys have about the Cold Steel Recon 1 or American Lawman knives. I have been considering these two for general purpose use and any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Also, anyone from British Columbia, Canada in the forums know of the best place to purchase knives locally besides House of Knives.

Fellow B.C 'er,

Great place for knives and the service is great too. Where are you in B.C?

I won't be living in Vancouver till the summer rolls around, but Warriors and Wonders is definitely the best place in Canada for quality production knives. The inventory is broader and the prices are better than any other dealership I've purchased from. I'm in Halifax at the moment, but the shipping is still remarkably quick. I've only bought a SOG Flash II from them so far, but the service is impressive enough that I plan to shop there again.
PS If you're looking for higher-end knives, Chris Reeve and Strider and so forth, or if you're looking for a unique custom-made piece, the place to go in this country would be truenorthknives.com.

I love my Lawman. It's got a large comfortable handle that allows for choking up. Very secure grip because of the finger groove and grippy G-10. The lock is like an improved lockback. It engages with a loud "thwack" and only disengages by pushing the button down very far. No blade play at all.
This knife seems like it should sell for more. For utility I don't think it can be beat easily. There are better choices for defense because it's slower to open than some knives because of the strong spring.

I too would recommend the Lawman. Although it would be nice if Cold Steel came out with a Lawman with the Recon 1's spear point blade (non-serrated of course).
