Cold Steel Recon 1 vs Spyderco Chinook...Whats tougher knife of those 2??????

I have a Chinook 1. I don't own a Recon 1, therefore blue is better overall.

All of you are simply ignorant fools... Red vs. Blue; really?! REALLY!?

Green is OBVIOUSLY the best and nothing you can say will change that.

Green 2012.

I don't have a Recon or Chinook, but will probably get a Chinook at some point..love the shape.

Red and blue are perfectly nice primary colors, add white and you can make a great flag.
But, British Racing Green is the obviously superior handle color...it has racing in the name.
If the Chinook came in BRG it would be perfect.

The answer to this question is obviously 42.

As long as you remember that a towel is the most important piece of survival gear.
... a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: nonhitchhiker) discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, washcloth, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet-weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitchhiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitchhiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

You are all nuts, why would you compare totally different primary colors???

Turquoise is scientifically proven to be the fastest/strongest/nicest color that holds an edge better than any other >.> and it's also the new purple......

My Recon 1 cuts just fine.

I would rather it had a full flat grind though! I would trade some "tough" for more "slice"

It does not cut like some of my knives with better geometry, but it cuts better than others with worse.

It is tough enough. It is light enough. I would trade a bit more tough for a bit more slice on this knife, because it is a handy package weight wise. It does not get carried near as much as my "old fashioned" knives do.

But, my slip joints are "tough" enough and cut great (well, at least some brands, others are also too thick behind the edge).

I would not try to pry a car door open with my slip joints. Then again, I have never had to do that with any of my fixed blades or locking folders.

If I ever have to, hopefully I will have a pry bar.

I don´t think you guys are right, an invisible color is my favourite! I can carry it concealed, invisible holds an edge like a laser and never can break because of it´s amazing toughness. Unfortunately I dropped it last weekend while camping and couldn´t find it anymore?!
So I went back to my EDC, it works cause I use it the way it´s intendet for.

you guys are thinking about this the wrong way. why settle for red's speed, or blue's ease of access alone, when you can carry a prism which conveniently holds all visible colors??

If it was good enough for Pink Floyd, it's good enough for me.

this thread went nowhere and it got there very quickly. someone please close or move it so we can go back to arguing about cold steel.

The Spyderco Chinook would be tougher to buy because it's discontinued and would cost more. The CS Recon 1 would be tougher to find in a dark room because of the black blade coating.

Just my 2¢...

While all you suckers were doing other things last month I got a Chinook 3 NIB from an obscure internet hardware retailer that happened to have one left in stock & didn't pay attention to knives much. I just googled it on a whim & called the place when I saw it in stock to confirm the unlikely item. Just wanted to brag. The Chinook's tip will be slightly weaker than the Recon 1's. Beyond that, it's down to which feels better in hand. Anything that will destroy one will destroy both. Both are much tougher than you'll ever need. The Recon 1 is just as tough as a Chinook for way less, feels great in hand, seems lighter, & cuts well. For that matter, a Voyager is all that for $40.

But if you find a Chinook 3 available for purchase & have the funds, don't be stupid. Get it now. Recon 1s will be around for cheap later. Chinooks are gone & they're just way too cool to pass up. Major "cool" factor with it for me. I paid $170ish & would've gladly paid more. If you like Spydercos & large folders, it's as good as anything they've done. The lock makes a beautiful sound when opened, the ergos are great, & I love the lines.

A Chinook will be my Christmas present to myself this year,a Recon I can buy any time

Makes more sense than comparing the same primary color.

I wasn't aware that color had an edge.

Goodbye and thanks and for fish.

I can buy chinook3 now but like chinook1,and would buy it in a second, and then completely convex it to zero grind lol!!!

It's a little crazy thinking about the Spydie models that stay and the ones that go - Manix (real one) and Chinook should still be around...can't imagine P'kal and some others ever sold as much.

It's a new trend....colors now have edges, and they are used in top class mil-spec-tac-ti-cool products such as Cold Steel, and they stop abortion :P
