Cold steel recon 1

I have the CS Recon spear point, its blade is exactly 4" and the OAL is well under 10. So it sounds like it would fit the dimensions you need. And the way mine opens (it's quite stiff and takes a good push on the thumb studs), I seriously doubt it would ever be interpreted as one of the blades that "falls open by gravity" or whatever.

this leaves me between the endura (i like the bright colors actually for if i drop it ill easily find it too) or the native, any thoughts?

Also the weight and length of the recon look like it might be a total pain to be taking out and in and out and in and open and close cause even if its a lock back i still 1 hand close all my knives (push the lock in and close it against my leg dont preech safty please iv never cut myself after 2 years of doing it with a buck 110)

I've had all these knives (Endura, Recon, Native), and still have the last 2. For the work purposes you describe, you DEFINITELY don't NEED a nearly 4" blade. I'd prefer the Native for your described tasks; it's a wonderful cutter, a light carry, and very easy to control. I'd highly recommend trying one out in a store first to ensure the grip is comfortable for you though. Not everyone likes the compact grip on the Native. For me it's fine, and I have larger than average hands.

Something to remember too is that the recon does not have steel liners, just g10.

Personally, I didn't find this point to be a disadvantage for the Recon, for the simple reason that the Recon doesn't use a liner lock anyway. It uses the Triad lock (similar to the Benchmade Axis lock), so the liners don't really NEED to be steel to give the locking mechanism extra strength. In fact, since the Recon has the Triad lock, I like that it uses the G10 liners to keep it lighter.

I'm not sure where you heard that from, but there is no legal limit to the size of a knife you carry in NJ.

There is a limit to its size if you're selling to minors.

There is no legal size limit in New Jersey. You are wrong about the law. This is a totally friendly observation, as it means that your Recon 1 will be "fine". And by fine, I mean that because of the vagueness of the law it's basically always going to come down to the officers discretion.

What were you doing when he stopped you? Why did he stop you? Where are you going/coming from? What is the circumstance, how does he feel about you and how you look, what is your stated reason for possessing the knife and why did he come to find out about it.

"Defense" or "protection" in NJ will at best lose you the knife and at worst result in your arrest.

yea well i cant justify any tactical blade as a work knife, they will call bullshit on that. That and a fam friend who has been a cop for 15 years says that if the knife is small enough to be considered just a pocket knife (witch is techically under 4 inch but he said they will hold to their palm and if the blade is less wide then its considered just a pocket knife) and your reason for it could be that you use it for craft hobby work or household chores and its a justifiable reason

Yep. Absolutely. I'm in NJ too and that is the true reason that I carry my knife. To open my mail, boxes, packaging, cut cord and string, and do all the other normal and functional uses for knives.

yup thats basiclly all i want, if it came down to it self defense everything becomes a weapon im not worried about using my edc for that.

think the endura will serve me well? for cutting packages plastic occasional card board and other random crap that needs slicing and or cutting

I'm no lawyer but I disagree California has a ban on switch blades and gravity knives but I'm 99.9999 percent sure this is legal my benchmade griptilian can open with the flinch of my wrist and I has personally askEd a cop if it was legal, he said yes (he's my friends dad not some random cop off the streets) actually if it's not a switch blade just about any folder is legal in California dosn't matter the blade length (. Sadly balisongs are illegal)

assisted knives are legal here too, but nj state law is basiclly as clear as telling ur kids they can go outside, but if the sky is too blue they will be punished

In California you can carry a machete as long as it has a sheath and is carried from your waist

You can even conceal carry a folding machete hahaha. I know they don't make those I'm just making a joke on the fact that California has no blade limit for folders. And it would be really hard to conceal carry a knife like that if it ixsited

But I stress I'm no lawyer and this is simply my interpretation of the law

in theory nj doesnt either but they have the if it looks like a weapon it is, and if u dont have a valid reason then its illegal, like u cant say u carry ur voyager xl for work purposes when u use it to cut tape off boxes at mcd.

Hahahaha well is that really the law. Or the police themselves that's the problem. Like in California we can carry but if a citizen is ignorant the police can trick them into believing they can consfixate it without a receipt and there actually doing the civilian a favor for not arresting him for not breaking the law. California law is actually pretty good when it comes to knifes my only real complain is balisongs since they are
Probably less dangerous then some of my assisted openers

Sadly while californias knife laws arn't bad are gun laws are the worst

nah it isnt a trick a trick game, our laws on knives are so fuzzy we are at the mercy of if the cop says its a no no ur gonna see urself in court trying to prove it isnt a weapon and a tool.

True well the only advice I can give you is. Call your police to find out ic it's legal and if you do ever get stopped and they tell you there going to search you declare that you are legally carying a pocket knife and if they do cop consfixate it ask for a receipt they should give you one if they don't they are probably not planning on returning so get badge number or. Car number and time it's not that I dislike the cops and I actually believe we Ned more cops not less it's just that I hate how everyone think should be illegal be chase they look scary. A balisongs is no more dangerous than a 10 dollar m tech folder

Switch blades arn't that dangerous Hollywood Makes us all look bad

i talked to a family friend thats been a cop for years and found out what i can and cant carry (he also said brightly colored handles make you look better makes it look less like a deadly weapon thats y i got a blue endura)
and a switch blade isnt no more dangerous then a metal framed ball point pen, you can kill someone just as easily with that.
