Cold Steel replaced my knife..Im Happy

I sent in a well loved Ti-Lite 4 that was in need a factory look over with a letter explaining my concerns.

1-It seems that the lock bar has become worn that it has traveled all the way across
and the detent ball actually touches the the liner...Vertical blade play.
2-Missing a clip screw.
3- It is in need of proper sharpening.
So I included 5 bucks in the event the could fix the lock and it would be sporting a factory sharp edge.

Well.... It arrived today...6 day turn around time... Woo Hoo.

I open it up and I see this.

Detent still touching other liner

Missing clip screw not replaced

Its pointy...Edge is so toothy.. It rips hairs out instead of cutting.

No letter saying they looked at my concerns with it...
Seriously Disillusioned with them right now....

Well since they won't fix it why not try peening the lock yourself?

Dissapointing they took your 5$ and didn't even replace the screw.

i too had an experience like this. i sent them my code 4 tanto because the lock spring gave out ( super odd ) so i sent the blade wrapped in a letter with specific instructions on what to fix, and to NOT sharpen the blade, it had a perfect mirror polish on it which took me hours to put on . so i get it back , and the spring was repaired, but it was now dirty, had a few scratches in it like it was dropped on cement. and they totally removed the mirror edge which was hair splitting sharp, and put on their own edge with a bench grinder, huge burr. so the blade was not shorter and thinner .after a back and forth with emails, they did tell me that they forgot to read my letter and they would send me a brand new knife if i sent that one back . so i did and have a brand new code 4 . but thir customer service is really unable to sharpen .... or read. if a spring ever goes again i may just replace it myself with a small hacksaw blade .
They sent you a brand new knife and you're still bee itching ? Maybe you wanted a liter of LT's blood or ?

Are you sending it back? Have you tried to contact them about the poor service?

Cold Steel responded to my email this morning.

Good aftenoon,

I am sorry to hear this happened to you I pulled your repair order and do show that you included what you originally had wrote and investigating why this wasn't repaired in full. Regardless I would like to get this knife back so we can address the issues, please send your address so I can send you out a prepaid label.

Thank you for your time

I will post any updates here

Cold Steel sent me a FedEx tag.
It was dropped off at FedEx this afternoon.

a new knife is nice, but they should be able to just fix it.
Maybe they should , but if they can't seem to read and follow instructions or even sharpen a knife , why would you believe they could repair anything complex ? I'd rather have a new knife than a botched repair .

so i get it back , and the spring was repaired, but it was now dirty, had a few scratches in it like it was dropped on cement. and they totally removed the mirror edge

Are you sure they sent your exact same knife back to you ? It is possible they just sent one back off the pile of repairs but not yours.
?

It would be a pretty big coincidence if the knife they sent back had the same problems. Same screw missing and same over 100% lockup travel?

Yes this modern world is impersonal.
I mean in the old days maybe a person sends in a knife that was carried by their father or grand father and it has a history and all and THAT ONE gets repaired.
Now they just toss the knife with the history in the trash and send a new knife.
Acceptable ?
I think not.

That is not what I meant. Maybe they saw they didn't want to take the time to fix the more difficult repair and so they send one that has a much more minor problem repaired, maybe a warrantied knife where they sent new replacement to that person.

I don't know; maybe that is too far fetched.
I have had this happen to me before with other equipment. They take in a bunch of the same product, replace the bearings on all of them and just randomly send them back. The same model but not the same . . . if you see what I mean. End result : a well cared for and loved tool gets shipped off to someone else and I get back somebody's old beater dings and all.

Any company that is doing that is definitely not playing the warranty game straight. I would be furious with a company that followed such a haphazard program.

Maybe I'm not following exactly but you were talking about the OP getting a different knife back than he sent in? But the knife the op sent in had a missing clip screw and a liner that went so far over the detent was touching the opposite liner. Considering the knife that the OP had sent back to him had the same clip screw missibg and the same lockup, I would say in all likelyhood he got the same knife back, just not worked on.

I feel like maybe I am confused by what you mean? Are we talking about the same person? (Original Poster)

i wished that the Cold Steel rep is still listening to feedback here and participate in the discussions. They use to be very active in this forums and would offer to help with situation like this. Too bad BF is too toxic and full of hate to have any constructive discussions here, this is probably why they stopped being active here. Either that or they are too busy shooting the next proof video.
If you use instagram, i suggest contacting them there, they are still very active on IG.

Glad to hear they're replacing the knife.Awhile ago I had a ti-lite with a worn lockbar and a little blade play - sent it in,CS carbonized the lock bar and sent it back. The whole warranty process was smooth and painless.Only,it worked for a while and the ball bearing touched again. No blade play though
