Is there any other company out their that can match the reviews/tests that Cold Steel puts out? I just love all their tests they put their products through to show how durable they are. I think they are the top of the line in terms of testing/reviewing and making it easily accessible. Thoughts?

They have been doing them for along time now, I find them entertaining for the most part.

I find them to be cheesy...but then again I don't buy knives (especially folders) based on their ability to take extreme abuse. Or chopping hanging meat.

I don't like their marketing but I've heard that they've brought out some pretty decent offerings lately.

Your right they do have some decent knives. But the marketing and just the over all feeling I get from Lynn Tomson really turns me off.

I rate all my knives on their ability to cut through leather motorcycle jacket sleeves filled with raw meat or puncture car hoods with my tanto blades.

Seriously though, I think there is legitimate, scientifically based tolerance testing that would provide useful data points for the consumer and then there is what CS does. Which for me approaches "knife theatre" more then anything.

I think most males enjoy watching Cold Steel videos when/if they do - people like to see knives, tomahawks, machetes, swords, etc. doing "cool" stuff (impressive, dangerous, silly, whatever)

If they are having fun showing off what their designs can do and exaggerating with descriptions, who cares really. They test their knives and other manufacturer's knives a crap-load more than what goes on the videos.

People will laugh at some of the Cold Steel tests and claims, yet get all hot and bothered when one of their favorite knife companies name-drops on some unknowing military unit/division.

I think a lot of it is the mob/gang mentality of the knife collectors who collect tons of $100+ knives and fondle them while watching action movies and use them for tasks that would only require $5 knife or pair of cheap scissors.

They like to have themselves believe through repetition by large numbers that their knife that cost 2-3x the money can do all of the "Proof" stuff and then some. When some one mentions how this or that rather expensive knife from another big name company fails a mediocre test the collectors grab their torches and pitchforks.

All together, I laugh at a lot of the things L.T. says when hyping up the products; but I love that he speaks his mind and actually stays true to his own self. The videos have sold them a ton of knives and will continue to do so. A lot of other companies have fans who hype up the products so much that they would just be wasting money on videos.

The only thing remotely similar that I've seen are knife destruction videos and stuff that average knife users post on youtube.

As far as another company making videos like Cold Steel, there's none that come to mind.

Cold steel likes to emphasize the strength of their knives - and they should, they have some of the most durable folders on the market. Now they don't have fancy blade steel and won't win a beauty contest, but they make tough as nails folders.

RF is right in that Cold Steel is a design and marketing company that 'farms out' it's manufacturing to other manufacturers in Japan, Taiwan and China. Come to think of it, so does Spyderco. ;)

I own a CS Spartan... currently my only CS folder. I own a Demko custom version of the L Espada. At a difference of $60 and $680, both knives lock up just as tight. I LOL at the Proof videos only because I know many CS knives can take much more.

I thought Spyderco owned and operated both its Golden manufacturing facility and the one in Seki city...or am I mistaken?

The Golden facility is owned by Spyderco, but in that there are two Japanese facilities that produce Spyderco knives, and one in Taiwan and at least one in China, I don't believe that Spyderco is large enough to own them all. Of course, I could be wrong.

The videos are impressive at a glance but almost all Benchmades, SOGs, or Spydercos could do the same thing. Has anyone noticed how they don't do a close up of the blade after their various "tests"?

it's weird, when i think of the Glock "torture tests", i think how stupid it is because i know i could do the same thing with my Sig, but i know my Sig is far more accurate and has a much sweeter trigger pull. yet, for some unknown reason, i actually dig the "proof" vids. heck, i like the vids over on knifetests.com too.

i don't know of any other company that does that with their knives, but i feel they SHOULD. i mean, if i made knives and i heard LT str8 callin other mfg's out (which he does), i'd show my hand.

CS is not the first. didn't BUCK KNIVES used to have advertisements (a generation before me) where they batoned their blades through nails and stabbed through pennies?

Cold Steel is alot of fun and makes some good knives too.

From blowguns to walking clubs to Bastards and folding knives.

I enjoy the hell out of most everything I have ever had of theirs, they make the toys we all wanted or tried to make as kids; Giant Torpedo lawn darts, Shurikens fun stuff, right there.

The videos are great, are they based in reality? Hell no.

Who cares if its not MADE IN THE USA, nothing is, your TV isn't; so are you going to stop watching it?

People that bash Cold Steel don't get it, plain and simple they never will there is no use arguing it either.

I love watching the CS product tests. I'm a little grossed out by all the animal carcases they hack up, but of course they just get the carcasses from a slaughterhouse, it isn't like the animal were killed just to hype CS products.
I know it seems to be fashionable to express contempt for all the Proof videos but they are entertaining, if not informative, and personally I'd like to see other companies show their wares being used in some way or another.
