Hey everyone,

I just recieved my CS recon scout, it's my first CS knife.
What kind of rust resistant oil should I use?
What is everyone's experiences with the rusting?
Is it a big issue?
I've been reading that rusting of the handle can be an issue as well-how can I prevent that?
Lastly, I'm considering modifying the handle, where can I find a good custom knife-guy?

Thanks people.

it's gonna rust, if you don't maintain it, but it's not gonna be THAT big of a deal. Wipe it up with some sorta oil. The hande is rubber and the tang under it shouldn't be a problem either

It "can" develop rust under the handle if the coating just above the handle gets chipped off or something, then rust can creep from the exposed steel there under the coating to the tang. There are alot of products out there that are good at resisting rust, Breakfree CLP, FP-10, Birchwood Casey Sheath (barricade now??), Eezox (sp?) and some others I've forgotten. WD-40 will work as a temporary solution, but really isn't that great if you live in a rust prone area. Just don't fret over it, more important than the kind of oil you use is how you use it, if you're out in the wilds for weeks at a time you may need some better advice, but if you're at home/work after you finish working with it just wipe it down with some oil and a rag, removing anything stuck to the blade or any moisture from what you cut, and it'll be just fine.

Thanks guys,

After reading so many posts on CS and the RS, I almost started to think the knife wasn't that tough. I don't plan on using it constantly in extreme conditions or anything. Anyone have suggestions on a good place to get the handle modified and the type of pricing to expect?
