Cold Steel SK-5 Trail Master has been DISCONTINUED

I thought one or two of you might be interested in the fact that the China made Trailmaster that I bought on ebay is NOT 5/16 thick. It's 1/4". Thompson saving money again. LOL

Not mine. I measured it twice, after noticing that it is thinner than my
Carbon V Recon Scout. 1/4" on the nose. The handle is very slightly different too. Maybe it's a fake. If so, it's a very good one. Anyone else with a Chinese made Trail Master???? Especially, if you have an older one to compare it to. ???

I just picked one up of ebay from user id: flackjakk2c5i for $79 plus shipping. It's 5/16 right by the handle, but then drops to 9/32 when the grind starts, definitely still over 1/4 though. I assume it's real, it has the brass lanyard ring and the fit and finish seems O.K., although it does have over run of the epoxy, especially toward the handle where the logos are. This user has sold several trail masters with all good feedback, some going as high as $110 recently. If it's a fake, which I don't think it is, it's a pretty good one.

Well, I just remeasured, close to the guard and it does seem to be "almost" 5/16. My old Carbon V Recon Scout is a robust 5/16 for almost two inches from the guard. I'm sure the one I bought is not fake as it is finished well, the leather sheath is heavy and well made, and it came with what appears to be a genuine Cold Steel box. What the hell does it matter I guess. I've been chopping and beating the hell out of it, with good results. LOL The SK-5 seems to hold up as well as the Carbon V, and certainly takes and hold as good an edge. Don't know why I'd be surprised. My SK-5 SOG Tigershark has performed well for a long time. Shrug

I may have mentioned in an earlier post that the one I bought had a disappointing epoxy finish. Looked like it had been applied too heavily. But , it was superficial. After taking the knife in and out of the sheath for a couple days, the friction of the leather removed the excess and made the finish smooth and very nice.
