Cold Steel Spartan or Gerber Metolius Folder?

I figured i'd buy a nice big folder for my next blade. i don't want to go overboard on the price this time around so i have narrowed it down to the Cold Steel Spartan and Gerber Metolius Folder. The spartan is bigger and more expensive but in this price range($30-$50), the difference doesn't really matter too much and i'll be getting more knife for the extra money. alternatively, the metolius looks like it would be alot easier to carry and looks more "conventional"...i am kind of leaning towards the Spartan though. if you have any other suggestions for a knife under $60 in a similar size range, let me know.

I've had neither of these so my suggestion is based soley on the companies rep. With that in mind, I think I would spend the extra bucks and go for the Cold Steel Spartan. Regardless of the "feelings" toward CS, they have terrfic knives made for them.

I can only comment on the Spartan, which I own. It'll put a smile on your face. It's heavy and has a strong backspring. I do plan on sharpening it a lower angle. It came sharp but at an obtuse angle.

No experience with either of those but I can definitely endorse a Spyderco Endura, probably the best conventional knife for that price range. If you want AO( assisted opening) Kershaw Blur or others can be had in the same price range. Between your original two I personally would go with the Cold Steel , there is a whole bunch of positive reviews of the Spartan.

I have a modded endura 3...love that damn thing! may get a waved E4 sometime in the future but for now, it seems like everyone is saying the Spartan so i think i'm gonna go for it but i still wanna hear what you guys have to say...

yeah those "feelings" were one of the things initially detering me from buying the knife when it first came out. i personally don't like certain "things" about CS but its the knife that counts... as you said.

Spartan for sure. It looks awesome, feels awesome, is razor sharp for such a big knife, cuts amazingly, and opens very smooth and even has the wave/thumbdisc opener that works like an emerson wave. I actually like the CS thumbdisc wave better than the emerson one

I don't know the Gerber but I do have the Spartan, and I have to echo all the positive comments made above.

well it deffinately looks like the Spartan is the clear winner here...thanks to all but does anyone know of any problems they've had with it in the past? i'll probably be ordering one in the next few days.

I loathe Gerber and would second the choice for the CS Spartan, I have several CS knives but not (yet) that model; either widen your parameters or get the Spartan.

Several people have popped in with irrelevant suggestions (i.e neither of the choices given in the OP) and none have suggested Gerber so that seems to say something.

it most certainly does...i try to widen my parameters whenever possible but sometimes you find something that is better and then you can't decide all over again...

i just ordered the Spartan fron yourcornerstore.com for $58 (including shipping) thanks to every one for your prompt advice ......(and glaringly obvious favorability towards the Spartan ;) )

i have both. the spartan is way higher quality. the spartan is made in taiwan while the gerber is made in china. my gerber came with the dullest blade on any knife i have ever bought. the spartan is really in a completely different league.
