I saw a review of one and it seemed like an interesting folder but quite large. I am thinking of trying one out but I have smaller hands and do not know if the grip is too much so some pics of you holding the knife with blade closed and open would be helpful. Anybody have one? carry one?

Its a fantasy knife? I carry a fantasy knife with me everyday. That guy is funny. The Spartan is acquired taste like Bourbon, careful now, its habit forming ; )

-ROck solid lock up, I wear XL gloves and it fits my hand fine, so it may be a bit big for ya. AUS 8 is a soft steel and the edge rolls pretty easy, thats the bad news good news is it sharpens and hones like nobody's bizness.

If Lynn Thompson got smart the blade would be BG42 or D2 with G10 handles to get away from that dipstick funboy mall ninja look of Zytel "Cough" Grivory....

He could do that but it would double or triple the cost, there are already plenty of knives in that price range to be had. Hope he continues to build them like he does.

It's a good solid well made folder. I bought one just because of it's lock. (and 60 dollar price)
I don't know if I will carry it much though, as a knife of this size I like to belt sheath carry, while hiking and it's too wide to go in any sheath I have. Even stuff that a Benchmade Rukus and other large folders I have will comfortably fit in, the Spartan won't begin to fit.
So it's clipped pocket carry and I tried it out last night in pocket. Not at all impossible but, it's still heavy/bulky at 7.5 oz. and I'd prefer it on belt.

Man up Jill ;):D

I would take this camping over a Ruckus anyday, just for the beat the hell out of it and who cares its 60 bucks factor, not to mention I can't think of a better design to hang your hat on in knife fight with a critter.

Bought one for my brother and he likes it. It is heavy but he said he loves the way it carries really low in your pocket.

I love BIG , HUGE folders (Camillus Max, REKAT Sifu, Cold Steel XL Voyagers) so I bought the big brother to the Spartan the Rajah which is crazy big.

Both knives have AUS8 which is not the greatest steel out there, I like BG42 the best but cost is also a factor. One thing I can always get wicked sharp edges on all my Cold Steel AUS8 blades. Zytel or whatever plastic handles are not as nice as Micarta or G10 but then again cost is a factor. Plus it it works on my Glock and H&K should be fine for a knife handle.

Cold steel takes a bashing from people who don't like the CS Marketing, but I think Lynn and Co. make a heck of a good knife for the $$$$$

I got one coming,i have handle one but got one in a trade so all is well, itz a hoss of a knife beat the hell out of it,and customer service is top if it breaks.........

And it shoudn`t be too hard to mod that handle, reducing the "fishhook" to a less-intrusive profile....I modded my Voyager XLII`s handle & clip, it now rides *really* low in the pocket (almost to the point where it`s invisible in black pants). IMHO, CS produces some excellent "working-quality" knives that you can beat the crap out of, and they won`t break the bank.

I wish you could get a belt sheath to fit it. The problem is the width from blade spine to back-spring. It's very wide, but it still seems like something would fit it.

I think it's a well designed handle, even in my smaller hands it fits very well.

You might go to the Army/Navy store and look at single magazine pouches. I had to get a flashlight pouch to fit my BM Rukus.

I got a belt sheath that fits a large Rukus and anything else besides this extra wide Spartan.

The "fishhook" comes in handy when chopping.

As to a sheath, I am looking at tool sheaths. I have a Gerber constatina wire cutter sheath (I think that is what it is for) that fits well except for length - I need to put a strip of velcro at the appropriate location. Lookin' for something more sturdy, though.

I've also been looking through my box-o-sheaths for one to fit the Spartan but no dice so far. Since I've been toying with the idea of going into some leatherworking this might very well provide the impetus to do so. Just something else I'm going to get-to. Yeah.

What sheath did you come up with for your lg. Rukus?

I had to find a Gerber XXL that will take folders over 5". It's been a few years ago, and I think it was around 16 dollars. I didn't even buy it for the Rukus at the time. But, it handles all the 5-6"" folders up until this wide bladed Spartan.
