The Spike Hawk came in earlier than expected. Out-the-door price was $26.

Modifications shown:
Edge was convexed (the factory edge was very dull).
Spike was sharpened. The spike was sharp, but totally painted over and had a round tip from the paint.

The haft isn't 19" long as listed (as on the other Cold Steel tomahawks) but it's 23-1/4" long. Shown with a War Hammer (30" haft) and Norse Hawk (19" haft)...

The Spike Hawk's spike is about 1/4" longer than the spike on the War Hammer, but the War Hammer's is substantially thicker.

Like the other Cold Steel hawks, the Spike Hawk is Taiwan-made and has the familiar set screw...

The cutting edge, opposed by a Trail Hawk's...

I really didn't like the 23-1/4" long haft, so I replaced it with a normal 19" one. Shown below are the haft that came with the Spike Hawk, the Spike Hawk wearing a 19" haft, and a Norse Hawk (also wearing a 19" haft)...

Boooo they ruined it again with the fricken hole in the side of the head, I'll be passing on the spike hawk then.

Nice Looking Hawk! I'd like to ask how you convexed the edge...
I used a bastard file, then a diamond stone, then a ceramic stick. You could use a belt sander if you wanted to make it quick while still not ruining the temper, but I think doing it by hand gives me more control over the angle.

Btw JNieporte, How was the alignment on the hawk?
I'm not sure what you mean...

Very funcional lookin spike, most of the ones I see nowadays are hooked wayyyy too much. Thanks for the shots, will be pickin one of these puppies up for sure!

where'd you get them, brother?

i didn't think anyone had them yet.

I really hope this isn't deal spotting. If so, let me know and I'll take it to E-mail...

Cecil Clark Knife Co. sells the Spike Hawk; they had seven in stock today. They also have two of the Pipe Hawks in stock.

Tell them what you're looking for and that Josh Nieporte sent you.

im really digging that 23" handle, i hope they come on the pipe hawk too!

the spray citristrip will take that black paint right off, just hose it down good and drop it in a ziplock bag and sit it in the heat for about 20 mins...melts right off

That reminded me... the Pipe Hawk also comes with a 23-1/4" long haft.

The Spike Hawk comes with Cold Steel's typical clear, plastic cover for the blade. I've used duct tape, 550 cord, and a cord lock to keep it on until I can get the sheath that's made for the Spike Hawk (but sold separately). You'll also notice a 1" length of clear tubing, which comes covering the spike...

Unless you're really concerned about appearance, you could simply not use the set screw. I seriously doubt that little hole will effect the hawk's functionality.

Does the blade line up squarely with the haft I guess would be a better way of saying it. I have read that a number od the CS hawks blades tend to twist to the right..

The blade on mine (just checked my other hawks too) all line up just fine.

right brother...!

a good home-trick is to just take the head off and tape the outside of the hole, and then dab some JB Weld on the inside of the hole with that cheek facing down until the JB Weld is cured.

pull the tape off after a couple hours, and it should come out almost perfectly.
