Cold Steel SRK New VG1 Japan

CPM3 came out last year. Only seeing offered on the Master Hunter with a tough gun like coating.

Was going by the illustrations you provided. Since the SRK does not have a 'concave' grind down to the edge,.. goes as a straight line, I concluded it was a saber grind. As a comparison, ..pls see SOG Creed grind. I may be corrected though.
Good on you!

The SMIII is hollow ground, AUS8A and plain VG1 are a sabre grind. VG1 has far better impact resistance and edge stability than VG10 and AUS8A so chipping is much less of a concern. I saw the new 3V version on Amazon last week for $159.

The Master Hunter was the first of the 3V Taiwan models to hit the stores. Now the Master/Magnum Tantos, Tai Pan in 3V have arrived.
All the Seki made classics are being replaced one by one.

I don't own one but love the SRK design. I do have some experience with VG-1 and let me tell you, that is not an easy steel to sharpen. Very rust resistant and holds an edge well, however. I'd go easier on it than I would the AUS8, San Mai III or 3V models, as VG-1 is a little more fragile.

Thanks for the clarification, I didnt know that.

I'd still be more careful with a VG1 knife than with an AUS8

VG-1 is tough. No need to baby it, it's not fragile.

I went full retard,

I whacked a Spyderco Sharpmaker ceramic rod on the pointy side of the stone very hard, choked back on the handle.

It made a big roll.

VG-1 is tough

Do not use the knife to 'chop', or bang on. As this is NOT what a knife was generally designed for. Then...no problem!
