Cold Steel SRK or a diff one for outdoor use

yeah those kratons are a definite upgrade! Nice find...

A little over the price range your looking at but a great brand of knives is Entrek, the knife is great the customer service from them sucks though.

I've had an SRK for many years. It's seen a fair amount of use including hundreds of throws and immersion in brackish & even chlorinated water. Still going strong & one of my very favorite knives

OK, well I think I'm going to go with the BK7, but I'm definitely still interested in the SRK. I'll probably get at some point. Thanks guys.

FWIW, because of Camillus's problems, you'd better move quickly. Either of these could be hard to find.

Oh, thats too bad. I might never see an SRK. I'll probably order the bk7 tomorrow. I'm making a final decision about buying another knife for my brother. Probably getting him an Endura.

yup, between the srk and the bk7, the bk7 is the right choice. much hardier and woods oriented. Well it is for me anways. Your making a good choice.

Just an F.Y.I., my future son-in-law is buds right now and they issue them the SRK's as there duty knife. He said that there are some that had rust on them but after a clean up they are still goign strong. I have had an SRK for years and it still takes arazor edge and holds it, it has seen soem hard use. I used it as a duty knife for a while (SRT) and it held out.

you could also look at ontrio rat 7 or the tak, both are great knives for the money.i have both knives and i love"em.I have used both knives purty hard and thay have held up very well.

What's wrong with a standard Kabar? The night raider (or whatever they're calling the all black one w/ kraton grips) should do well.

I have to agree. I love my Ka-bar, the only issue I ever had was once when using the pommel as a hammer it loosened up the tang/grip/guard pressed fit... A good hard stab with the tip into a tabl fixed that.

There is a reason this design has been around so long.

I just received the BK7 that I ordered and I'm really happy with it and can't wait to go camping. It seems very good for what I'll be using it for. (camping, hiking, backpacking) Thanks all for the great information.
At some point, I'll probably look into getting a smaller knife for long difficult backpacking trips, maybe a Fällkniven F1. Kinda expensive though.

If you can swing the $$$ and wait the wait I would highly recommend the Fehrman line of knives (I have 4 models) or the Oberland 03 Trident(now called Crusader Forge). I have the Oberland 01, the Oberland 03, and the TCFM 02 and they all seem to say to you "go ahead and just try and break me" (both the Fehrmans and the Tridents).

Ron,
Not trying to highjack the thread, but quick question. I have sent several e-mails to Fehrman (new and old e-mail addresses) and several telephone calls with no answer or reply. Do you know if they are still in business and taking orders?

Ron Athay,
I just tried to send them an email describing the problems you are haveing and will have to wait and see if I get a responce from them.
I used this email address: fiercetools@fehrmanknives.com

You might also try using: eric@fehrmanknives.com and see what you get. On Monday, I will try and call them and see if I can get in touch that way too.

muzzleup: Those are great looking knives. But, the original poster didn't want to spend $90 on a Scrapper 6, I doubt he will cough up the $$$$ for one of those. I need to get one of those knives myself one of these days.

Yes, you are probably right, however, I was responding to someone who did want to get a Fehrman knife but was having trouble getting in touch with them. I know that they have had some ISP problems in the past and that may still be going on.
I am still going to try and get in touch with them and will post any problems I find out on the Good the Bad and the Ugly as information only.

The 4 that I have are really outstanding knives and I sure hope that they have not given up on making knives since they are really a tool & die shop.

Ron,
Thanks for the information. The top e-mail address is the one I used the second try. It did not bounce back like the old one I used two months ago. I will wait for a few more days to try again.
