Cold Steel SRK or Becker BK7

I've been having fun with my Cold Steel Bush Ranger and I'd like to get another fixed blade as an "Everything Use" knife.
I am going to strip the blade of the coating and give it a satin finish. I've been reading/watching the reviews but have yet to decide on which
one to get. Any suggestions?

Love my srk, it's an older one in carbon v but is still ready for the job. No experience in the Becker line other than the rave reviews Becker seems to get. Along these lines I'd also look at falkniven and bark river.

You can't go wrong with anything Becker. Thou be warned a single Becker purchase usually leads to wanting more and more lol

The Carbon V version is the one most of us woodsy people would prefer. I would anyway.

I'd take an SRK over the Becker any day.

Had an SRK back in the day. It was tough as nails, but the rubber handle eventually got some sort of chemicalia on it and messed it up.

If I was in the market for its replacement, I'd get the Becker, as I like the handle material better. It also has linen micarta replacement slabs available.

Country of origin matter to you? If so, Becker is made in USA, CS is made overseas.

You've already got a Cold Steel product... so try a Becker if you've never owned one.

Had an SRK, not a bad knife at all but the BK-7 is in a different class. Be warned however, that if you get he BK-7 (good choice over the SRK) then the Lays potatoe chip syndrome may kick in.

I'd pick the SRK without hesitation, personally. I prefer the kraton handle to grivory or micarta, and I also like the steel options of the SRK. Were I to get an SRK, it would be the San Mai III version. I've got the San Mai III Recon Tanto (very similar knife) and HNNNGGGGG...

Thanks for the replies. How's the edge hold up on the San Mai SRK vs. the AUS8/VG-1 version?

SRK is a great design and one tough blade and tougher than the becker for sure due to it's obtuse grind. Handle is terrible.

The BK7 has a better handle and should be a better slicer since it is thinner, though not as tough.

I'd say BK7

What makes it so desirable. I've heard that same thing but since I haven't purchased a cold steel since the 90s so I'm not familiar with current steels they use.

I hated the obtuse grind, so in my early 20s I tried my first regrind and gave my SRK a scandi type grind. wasn't the prettiest but it works sooo much better

That's a lot of work, lol. I love the SRK design. If they had made it 0.15" stock it would have been perfect, along with micarta

I would take the Becker over the SRK. I really like the design of the SRK, but I've seen a few of them break via YT videos. That does not make me want to get one any less though. I like the SRK over the Benchmade CSK (similar design that has also broken with woods use).

totally agree with you Cobalt. just a bit thinner, especially the grind and put some actual scales on it, but they kraton does work and its taken its abuse and still is in one piece. yeah the regrind did take some time, especially for a beginner at that time, but even to this day I am totally happy with the results.

I have a minty bush ranger carbonV that has not seen use yet due to no sheath but I like it.

Between the srk and bk7 I would go for the 7

Both are good, solid knives. I prefer the BK-7 because of its blade thickness and grind, the SRK is a bit too thick for my taste.

I love my Becker it's a real workhorse. However it's basically reduced to wilderness outings due to its heft. I love my CS products as well they seem to be a little more universal.

Both are proven so it's a hard call, I guess you just have to handle a few of the Becker models and see what fits you best.

I really think my Becker BK-2 will be dug up by future civilizations and put into someone's rotation hundreds of years from now.
